NeNe Leakes Pens ‘Heavenly Birthday’ Tribute to Late Husband Gregg!
NeNe Leakes recently celebrated her late husband, Gregg Leakes, on what would have been his 67th birthday. The former Real Housewives of Atlanta star took to Instagram to wish Gregg a “heavenly birthday” with an emotional tribute.
“Missing the man that always had a plan!” NeNe wrote under a photo of her and Gregg. “Today is a tuff one…every year on this date we would be out celebrating you! I can’t believe we are wishing you a heavenly Birthday today. I feel like you went somewhere and you’ll be back.” NeNe concluded her tribute by saying that she misses Gregg every day and that she loves him so much.
As reported by AllAboutTheTea.com, Gregg passed away on September 1, 2021, after an intermittent battle with cancer. The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum was married to Gregg for over 20 years. NeNe and Gregg first tied the knot in 1997 but divorced in 2011. They remarried in 2013 and remained together throughout Gregg’s cancer battle. They share one adult son, Brentt, but both have children from previous relationships.
NeNe revealed to PEOPLE the final moments of Gregg’s life. “The last five days before his passing was really beautiful,” she said. “All of his children were there. His best friends were there. Our closest friends were there. We all sat with him around the clock.” NeNe added, “We talked a lot, and we made peace with what was happening.”
Three months later, NeNe announced that she was in a new relationship with African businessman, Nyonisela Sioh. NeNe exclusively confirmed the news to The Shade Room and revealed that Gregg gave her his blessing before he passed. “His words to me were ‘be happy, keep smiling and he who finds you, has found a good one,'” NeNe said.
NeNe has credited her new beau for helping her after Gregg’s death. “I can’t say [Nyonisela] hasn’t helped me put a smile on my face,” she told Extra on the set of her BET+ reality series College Hill: Celebrity Edition. NeNe added that to find joy, “You have to be willing to be happy, and you have to make a lot of changes within yourself.”
