Interestingly, Matt triggered the chatter himself, via graphic text messages, shared to supposedly suggest that a smackdown with Amber took place. Online Teen Mom crackerjack, Smarty Jones, got ahold of the text messages, and exposed the incriminating photos on Twitter.

Matt spoke to People to deny the claims, and to defend Amber.
“The rumor that’s circulating is both vicious and completely false,” Matt, 45, told the outlet. “I can’t stand by and allow the media or anyone else to undermine the progress that Amber has made in turning her life around, or the relationship we’ve worked hard to build together.”
However, in an exclusive statement made to AllAboutTheTea.com — the Teen Mom blogger and podcast host dishes the real scoop on the reality star with an alleged violent streak, and her shady MTV lover. Smarty reports that Matt’s story is as full of holes as his banged up character.
“The photos of Matt Baier (rhymes with LIAR) that were posted came from women who claim to have an ongoing relationship with him. The screen shots of text messages Matt allegedly exchanged with these women clearly show photos of him battered, bruised, and even bleeding..” Smarty explains.
Matt scoffed at the rumor, claiming that a rough night with the boys was responsible for his scratched up face. Matt left out the fact that he had already accused a “SHE” of being responsible for his wounds.
“The photo that surfaced is nothing more than the result of some roughhousing amongst my guy friends. I got my butt kicked by a friend, and it was well-deserved, I might add. Now someone’s trying to use the pic to paint an untrue picture of our life together,” Matt explained to People.
Matt did not address why he photographed his injuries, and shared the pics, via text. Smarty Jones clarifies.
“Matt responded by claiming he got the bumps, bruises, and blood from “roughhousing” with his guy friends….” Smarty counters. “But he must have forgotten that he followed the photos by texting, “Remember, this is the WOMAN who did this,” and “look what SHE just did.”
Smarty reveals that another individual also testified to a possible pattern — pointing to an older photo of Matt, sporting a black eye. Smarty shares the purported backstory.
“I was also approached by an old employer of Matt’s who claims that he saw the black eye in person and that Matt passed it off as an injury sustained in a bike wreck,” reveals Smarty. “Until later, when he was mad at Amber, and told the truth about the physical abuse he’s endured. He said, ‘He hates her with a passion, but loves the money and fame.’”
But is this black eye fake? It's not an isolated incident and there are pictures spanning over 2 years' time 😳👊🏼 pic.twitter.com/WvDwLzv01H

Gary Shirley, father of Amber’s daughter, Leah, weighed in during the drama, responding to the photo of Matt’s clawed face.
I always hated those fingernails!

Amber was charged with domestic abuse in 2010, after a violent tussle with Gary landed her in legal hot water. She ultimately served 17 months in jail. MTV cameras captured Amber striking Gary in front of their baby daughter.
Smarty references Amber’s past in her statement — pointing to the scars that remain on Amber’s ex.
“A picture of claw marks on Matt’s face was posted and Gary Shirley, Amber’s ex-fiancé and father of her daughter, was tagged. Gary responded to my tweet, saying,’I always hated those fingernails!’ in reference to the physical abuse he also suffered at the hands of Amber Portwood.”
“Amber would never lay a hand on me, and I can’t wait to marry the love of my life in October,” Baier said.
However, Smarty points out that Teen Mom fans are a smart bunch.
“Matt is free to spin the story however he’d like, but the fans aren’t stupid,” Smarty remarks.
