Teresa Giudice: What Life In Prison Will Be Like For The Convicted Felon

Convicted felon and “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star, Teresa Giudice will soon be hauled off to prison to serve a prison sentence. Many are speculating which facility Teresa will be assigned to. The state of New Jersey where Teresa lives does not have a women’s federal prison so the next closest women’s facility is Danbury Federal Correctional Institute (Danbury FCI), located in Danbury, Connecticut. 

Danbury FCI is where Piper Kerman, writer and activist served her prison time and was the inspiration for the hit TV show Orange Is The New Black.

Unfortunately for Teresa, Danbury FCI is scheduled to be turned into an all male facility. The phase out of all women prisoners took place in December 2013. The next likely but not GUARANTEED facility she could (potentially) be sent to is Alderson Federal Prison Camp in Alderson, West Virginia. Nicknamed “Camp Cupcake.”

Martha Stewart served her prison time there. This is a likely predication, definitive confirmation of where Teresa will serve her time has not been announced. The government could ship Teresa to any women’s federal prison camp located in the United States including Puerto Rico and Hawaii.

All About The Tea spoke with a criminal lawyer who confirmed the following:

“Danbury is the closest and where Teresa is most likely to be sent, but there is talk of it closing imminently and being turned into a men’s facility. The next major federal prison would be Alderson in West Virginia, where Martha Stewart served her time.”

Once sentenced, Teresa will have about six weeks to surrender to whatever facility the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) assigns her to.

The lawyer added:

“BOP figures out where people serve their time based on a number of factors – the crimes they are convicted of, the length of their sentence, where they’re from and what security designation they are”

Martha Stewart reported to the Alderson Federal Prison Camp in Alderson, WV where she became inmate number 55170-054. Alderson has previously been home to jazz great Billie Holiday, World War II propaganda queens Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose, and would-be presidential assassins Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme and Sara Jane Moore. Stewart was convicted of four counts of obstruction. Martha recounts her experience at Alderson as “The worst experience of my life.“

Life behind bars will obviously be a huge shock for Teresa, who currently resides in her family’s $2 million McMansion in Towaco, New Jersey.

Life will drastically change as she knows it. Teresa will be subjected to endless lists of rules, mean prison guards, repetitive jobs for pennies an hour – used to buy soap or a radio at the commissary and waiting for the all-important mail call.

Prison life is a worlds away from Teresa’s red-carpet luxurious lifestyle.  Soon Teresa will be calling the following tiny 8 x 10 prison cell home. Lights on at 6:00 a.m. and lights out by 11:30 p.m. at Alderson.

The majority of inmates at Alderson Federal Prison Camp are doing time for drug-related offenses, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

 

 

Upon surrendering to Alderson, Teresa will be treated just like every other inmate entering the prison system. She will be fingerprinted, photographed, and strip searched. She will have to submit to a urine sample in front of the guards. She will be issued a prison uniform and black steel toed boots. She will be given bedding — a pillow, sheets, a blanket and towels then assigned a prison cell in the facility.

Gone will be days of Teresa flaunting her wealth with glamorous ski vacations, beach excursions and publicizing her kids engaging in expensive extracurricular activities. While most Americans are barely scraping by, living paycheck-to-paycheck with little to none left over for vacations.

According to a criminal lawyer, before Teresa is formally sentenced by the judge, she will meet with the United States Probation Department and a report will be prepared. The report will outline recommendations for sentencing for the judge to consider. Sentencing is scheduled on September 23.

UPDATED:  Joe Giudice was sentenced to what amounts to three-and-a-half years in prison. Teresa Giudice was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Teresa and Joe’s sentences will be staggered. Also, the reality stars must pay $414,000 in restitution.

The couple apologized in federal court today, telling the judge they disgraced many people.
