90 Day Fiancé alum, Geoffrey Paschel has hired a new legal team to file for an appeal over his prison sentence.

According to Radar Online, Geoffrey is hoping to overturn his 18-year prison sentence after he was found guilty of aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault, and interference with an emergency call. The case information provided revealed Paschel’s legal team filed for an appeal on July 6, not long after his motion for a new trial had been denied on June 24.

The new legal team he hired, attorneys M. Jeffrey Whitt and Richard L. Gaines, handled the filing. Geoffrey is currently serving time at the Tennessee Department of Corrections. As of now, his release date is set for July 5, 2039, which is a few days before he turns 62 that September.

The appeal will be presided over by Judge Kyle A. Hixson, and if Geoffrey isn’t successful, he will have to serve his sentence with no chance of parole. Geoffrey was first arrested in 2019 over an incident involving his ex-fiancée, Kristen Wilson. After the police reacted to a disturbance call in Wilson’s home, she told them that the 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days alum had assaulted her in her home.

Geoffrey said his ex’s injuries were self-inflicted, but he was found guilty on October 7, 2021. His son, Dakota, posted a plea on behalf of their family to help their father get out of prison. Dakota asked fans to donate towards Geoffrey’s legal fees and included his grandmother’s Venmo email to send the money.

In the post, Geoffrey’s son wrote, “This country is supposed to be built on justice for all. My dad trusted the system. He doesn’t deserve what has happened to him. Please support us in getting him the help he needs.” But his post was deleted within hours. In March 2020, Paschel had spoken about his decision to go on the TLC reality show.

Geoffrey said in a post on his Instagram, “I have been repeatedly asked why I would EVER want to be on a show (the best show FYI) where my life would be put in front of everyone to pick apart — especially with my checkered past. Well, guys, it is MY past. It is MY life. It is MY choice. If we were all the same: thought the same, looked the same, or acted the same, how lame would that be?”
