‘The Wendy Williams Show’ Airing Final Episode WITHOUT Wendy!
The Wendy Williams Show has officially been canceled after almost 14 years on TV.
Wendy Williams started hosting her daytime talk show in 2008. Since then, she has remained a staple on daytime television, often hosting celebrity guests and reporting on the latest entertainment news. A spokesperson for the show told People, “The final original episode of The Wendy Williams Show will air on Friday, June 17th, with a video tribute to the iconic host. The series comes to an end after 13 successful years in syndication.”
The shocking news comes after Wendy Williams announced in March that she would be returning to the show. “I’m going to be back on the Wendy Show! Bigger and brighter than ever!” She added, “I’m very comfortable. My partners with the show, everybody’s ready. Give me about three months. There are private things that I have to deal with and then I’ll be ready to come back and be free and ready to do my thing.”
In May, AllAboutTheTea.com reported that Wendy had a number of podcast offers on the table. They said, “She sees Joe Rogan has a $100 million podcast deal, and now she wants that kind of money.” They added that Williams is a hard sell. “The people at iHeart don’t like controversy, so the best place for her is Spotify,” the source said. “They like the wild cards, but even at Spotify they don’t give you the money unless you prove yourself first, and Wendy wants money upfront.”
Wendy has taken a hiatus from her show before due to her medical condition in March 2018 and May 2020. She said in an interview, “It came from me neglecting my six-month endocrinology appointment,” she told PEOPLE in 2018. “I have Graves’ disease and hyperthyroid. If you have one you don’t necessarily have to have the other, but I have both, and I was diagnosed with both 19 years ago.”
Wendy’s fans were sad to hear the news of the show’s cancellation. One fan said, “Wendy Williams deserves so much better. She built this show and its audience— to not even pay her the bare minimum respect of letting her appear on its farewell episode is egregious. They handled her so poorly in the wake of her health issues.” Another fan said, “End of an era. #TheWendyWilliamsShow She’ll be back on #podcast in the shade 😎 again they say. Podcasts can be quite lucrative and she has lots of experience.”
