A few months ago, Mary Cosby made headlines for being forced to marry her late grandmother’s second husband in order to inherit the family’s fortune. In a preview of the season’s premiere, Mary reveals that the marriage was arranged my her late grandmother. “It was kind of in my grandma’s will for us to marry,” Mary says in the scene.
Her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., chimes in saying that his late wife wanted to make sure he’d be taken care of. “She said, ‘If anything ever happens to me, Bobby, I want you to marry one of my girls because they’ll look out for you,'” he says.
Mary Cosby received a lot of backlash for her unconventional marriage but isn’t phased by it because it’s old news, according to her. During an Instagram Live chat with RHONJ star, Teresa Giudice, Mary expressed that she’s happy with the decision she made to marry her step-grandpa and doesn’t care what people are saying.
“I don’t care, it’s not my blood. It was a family situation choice that I knew was right,” Mary exclaimed. “So they’re coming at me like I’m incest, and I’m gross, and I’m marrying my grandfather. Which sounds ridiculous.”
Mary said that she has no regrets about making her grandma’s wishes come true. “It’s my story and I’m not ashamed of it. And I feel like I’d rather kept my grandmother’s empire together than to have listened to the people and make them just be lost in life,” Mary said to Teresa. “We’ve been married 22 years. So you understand when it’s old. It’s old to me now.”
Teresa, who fans say looked very uninterested in Mary’s rant, told the RHOSLC star to “stand up” for what’s in her heart.
