Did Phaedra Parks Accomplish Divorce Strategy By Allowing Her Sons To Visit Apollo In Prison?

Well, Phaedra Parks is still talking about that commercial for Cynthia Bailey Eyewear. Superbowl ads don’t get this much coverage. But for The Real Housewives of Atlanta, the Kim Fields’ directed ‘mercial is still a thing.

“I thought the “Mercial” turned out extremely cute. Kim was extremely professional, and it was great being a part of making Cynthia and Kim’s vision a reality.”

Okay, now that we’ve got that nonsense out of the way, let’s get to the heart of the episode. On the previous episode, Phaedra broke down and took the boys to see their dad in the big house. She had to fly to New Jersey, book a hotel, rent a car…all so she could see Apollo and his prison Mohawk.

“My first priority is the safety and wellbeing of our children. As I have voiced on many occasions, my primary concern about the visit was how it would impact our sons. I know how that life experiences shape a child’s perspective of the world…”

Phaedra was worried about how the visit might affect the boys.

“I was praying for their spiritual covering and the wisdom to respond to any questions they may have during and after the visit.”

So other than Apollo refusing to sign divorce papers, how did it go?

“My goal has always been to facilitate a positive relationship between Apollo and our sons. I am happy that we were able to make the trip and were allowed to visit.”

Is Phaedra’s purpose of making the prison visit (on camera) to avoid a charge of parental alienation in her divorce proceedings with Apollo?

Parental alienation involves the programming of a child by one parent to denigrate the other targeted parent, in an effort to undermine and interfere with the child’s relationship with that parent, and is often a sign of a parent’s inability to separate from the couple conflict and focus on the needs of the child.

Such denigration results in the child’s emotional rejection of the targeted parent, and the loss of a capable and loving parent from the life of the child.

In a divorce, a charge of parental alienation is taken very seriously and works negatively against the offending parent. Viewers witnessed Parks’ attorney advise her (several times) to take her sons to visit their dad in prison. Phaedra objected every time but suddenly had a change of heart, coincidentally at the same time she filed for divorce. 

My guess is that future visits will be few and far between. What about you?
