Juliet Angus Explains Why Thanksgiving is About Family Not Climbing a Social Ladder
Ladies of London is back, and I’m ever so chuffed about it. Last night, the Great Turkey Divide between Juliet Angus and Marissa Hermer is still causing their lady British counterparts to scratch their heads and mutter, “Sorry? What now?”
You see it’s Thanksgiving, and as expats living in the UK, Juliet and Marissa feel the need to fight over the holiday in the American aisle of an upscale grocery store. Marissa has planned her London Thanksgiving for years, but interloper, Juliet, doesn’t want Thanksgiving (which is the same day as her birthday) ruined by Marissa’s stupid fake party in a restaurant, which is nothing like a real Thanksgiving would be, with real family, back in the genuine United States.
“Marissa made many accusations and made Thanksgiving about her and how she has been hosting the holiday ever since she moved to London and her traditions. She wanted to control this holiday from the get-go. Marissa is great at throwing parties and they are great to attend, but no one owns Thanksgiving.”
Do you hear that, world? No one owns Thanksgiving. It’s not trademarked or anything, and Juliet will bitch slap anyone who claims otherwise. (She’s looking straight into your Thanksgiving-hating soul, Marissa!)
So when Juliet talks her dear (rich) friend Caroline into hosting a rival Thanksgiving, well, it’s on. Someone is going to get their ass stuffed, and it won’t be the turkey, kittens.
“Marissa has it all wrong actually. My last four year years in London I have met a lot of people, some have become close friends, but some have truly become family. And Caroline, has really become like family – our husbands have bonded, our children love spending time together having play dates and going to each other’s birthdays.”
See? Doesn’t that prove it? They are real friends. Like, Thanksgiving friends, which is way better than the normal kind.
“I have incredible family and friends in Chicago, LA, New York, Montreal. Finding friends in London that felt like I’d known them my whole life was the most important part to making London feel like home, way more than climbing any social ladder.”
All this bickering over the holidays actually does have a family feel to me. At least my family. And selfish Marissa needs to remember what this holiday is all about. It’s about giving thanks, damn it, in a house, not a restaurant! God!
“To me that is the most important thing about this holiday, being with family and giving “thanks” that you are all home together with warmth, food, love and health…I just wanted to be with my husband, children and the friends I felt closest to.”
Question: why couldn’t she do two Thanksgivings like everyone else? I always cook a turkey, whether we celebrate at home or not. Hello, leftovers!
So what does Juliet do in her spare time, when she’s not traipsing all over London, sucking the joy and spirit out of the holiday? Why, she has a fashion blog, of course. And it is super exciting.
“I have been busy building my blog…which is super exciting.”
See? I’m not lying.
“It’s primarily fashion, but I have been adding all my London secret lists of best restaurants, places to stays [sic], things to do and places to shop. In addition to constantly updating the blog, I am very lucky to have lots of loyal fashion followers and Ladies of London fans on Instagram…”
That should keep her busy, but Christmas is right around the corner, and Santa doesn’t deliver to restaurants. Marissa!
Are you all excited that Ladies of London is back? And whose side are you on in the Turkey Tussle?
