All About The Tea_Blood, Sweat and Heels

What I love about “Blood, Sweat, and Heels” is that the producers actually focus on the fact that these are women whose careers, all at various stages of development, are important. The opening sequence is of each woman at work, building her mini-empire. Our first stop is Mica and Daisy, who looks wonderful. Daisy teases Mica’s phone friend Kevin – a marketing genius from Chicago that she met at a friend’s party in the Hamptons. Daisy talks about the CT scan she has coming up. The hope is that the “Batman and Robin” duo of the chemo and radiation has eliminated the tumors. They decide to live it up by affecting their “older Bronx males” voices and drinking ginger ale in champagne glasses. It’s hilarious.

Not so funny? Demetria and Melyssa’s lunch date, in the park. For someone getting married, we’ve heard almost no wedding news, and grueling details about this book, which is self-published and leaving Demetria with a long “to do” list. There is the rewriting, editing, planning a release party, amping up her fanbase, getting it on iTunes.  It’s wonderful that  she has the achievement to crow about, but she’s turning this show into a season long commercial for “the book.” The only thing annoying me more, right now, are the caterpillars that crawled on to Melyssa’s face, trying to suffocate her eyebrows. WTH? Her eyebrows look like they’re part of a bad disguise  kit. Demetria’s  wedding finally comes up and Melyssa is looking forward to it, hoping to find a date. Demetria wants to hook Melyssa up with a Nigerian banker friend, so Melyssa decides not to bring a date. I feel like I’m watching “Blood, Sweat, and Heels” (Atlanta).

Daisy and her friend Wendy are on the way to her check up. Daisy reads the card her father sent her. It’s very sweet and she wishes her father could be there. She knows her mother would be too stressed out to be able to help her so it’s probably glad they’re not there. I won’t keep you in suspense: the news is GOOD!  She is healthy. Daisy understated her mother’s gift for worry. Her phone rings before she can even call her mother – who is not pleased that she didn’t get a call immediately. Mom wonders if it’s possible the cancer has spread. She wonders if it could come back, and a host of other questions that are making ME nervous just listening. Daisy tells her mom that her battery is dying and then frees herself. As soon as she was able to take a drink, I hope she took at least two.

Demetria is meeting at her publicist’s office. It’s a small operation and it feels as if she is in good hands. Her publicist seemed fully focused on her event. Due to the self-publishing, Demetria has put a lot of her  own money in up front and worries about what will happen if no one buys the book.

Mica is a lot less stressed, meeting up with Kevin (a  karaoke junkie who loves performing “Thriller”).  I like them together, so far. They laugh a lot and really get each other’s sense of humor. Mica is ready for a family but after Terry is learning not to rush things. She learns that months into a relationship the “representative” goes away and you’re in a relationship with someone you don’t know. Kevin tells Mica he’s excited about them and the potential they have. Damn it to all… I want to hug this guy through my tv screen! I see a season of “Newlyweds: The First Year” for these two.

Ah, the book signing! Demetria is helping with the set up. I can’t tell if she hopes she won’t fail or if she has convinced herself that she will. She is hard on others, but it’s so  clear that she is even hard on herself. Arzo is also a tough cookie. She feels that it would be easier to tell her family about her boyfriend if he sold a hit record. He pays his share of the rent and expenses, but doesn’t pay Arzo’s expenses. Despite the fact that he is younger, he is also old-fashioned and wants to take care of her. Right now he’s locked in a contract that doesn’t favor him, as an artist. He sees success in his future, she does too.

Daisy sees a positive future for herself, but I see no hope of clearing that pile of mail from her bed. I hope those aren’t all bills, as they were the last time we saw her room. She calls  for more chemo pills, which she will have to continue taking, along with radiation treatments. At the same time, her assistant is setting up her wigs. She wore them before, because she just didn’t like to do her own hair. Now she needs them because her hair is gone. She’s afraid that it will never grow back. Rock and hard place. She is thinking of having the pills delivered to Demetria’s event so that she won’t have to miss it. She can’t miss taking her pill, not even once, so the delivery is necessary.

At the party, Demetria is happy to see people lined up at the door. Geneva and Chantelle arrive and Chantelle confuses Geneva by curtseying before her. Chantelle finds out that Greg is from Jamaica, like her family, and says he must be a “good egg.” Mica shows up  with Kevin. She doesn’t worry about him in that crowd because he’s smart – which also makes it ok that he’s shorter than her. Daisy makes it, but later steps out. Her phone is about to die and the delivery has not been made. Just as  she steps out, both Melyssa and Arzo arrive.

As the Q&A is taking place inside, Daisy is outside crying to Arzo and her boyfriend. Yestirday. She is really punishing herself for not staying home to pick up her prescription. If it’s manufactured Bravo-drama? Shame on them. My stomach is in knots thinking that she could miss a critical dose. Arzo gets how hard it is that Daisy is alone.

Inside, Chantelle is checking her make up and reflecting on how “dry” Demetria is. Mica looks like she’s due for a nap and Geneva is reading her email. Melyssa is now outside with Arzo, Daisy, and Yestirday offering to help track down the delivery.

Mica and Chantelle begin laughing together and Demetria calls out the table out for the noise they’re making. Geneva looks away as if to clear herself from the eventual rumble. Greg comes over to ask them to keep it down and sits with them.

Outside Melyssa realizes how brave Daisy is to keep going as she deals with her health issues on her own. The small group hugs when they  learn that the delivery man is on the way. When someone says it’s like college, Daisy and Arzo joke that instead of the weed man, she’s waiting on a real drug man.

Chantelle is looking around for Arzo and hopes that they won’t get into it over Chantelle’s outfit. Joking around, bouncing the champagne glass and chanting Mica’s name, Chantelle breaks the glass. Demetria has had enough and asks Greg to handle it. Outside, Daisy is hugging the delivery guy. Inside Greg tells the giggling women that they are disrespectful, leading Mica and the returning Daisy to stand up for Chantelle.

Chantelle takes  things too far by saying “Yes, Massa” to Greg, who tells the bouncer to get her the f-k out of there. WHOA! Daisy says that he can’t kick her out she’s preparing a question to ask and he tells her to stay out of it. YIKES! Now Geneva is upset that her guest is being ejected. Mica is standing up and is upset. This is juicy, but really messed up, folks. Chantelle? Out of control. Greg? Worse.

We end with Geneva refusing  to let Chantelle be thrown out. The women are especially upset that a security guard/bouncer was called. Demetria does not object when Melyssa brings it up to her. The publicist tells Greg it is a bad idea because it causes a scene. He couldn’t care less, he wants her gone. Socially, this is a bad night, all the way around!
