Teddi Mellencamp Defends Dating New Man While Battling Stage 4 Cancer!
Teddi Mellencamp is pushing back against online critics who’ve questioned her personal choices as she continues her fight against stage 4 melanoma.
On the June 12 episode of her podcast Two Ts in a Pod, which she co-hosts with Tamra Judge, Teddi, 43, addressed recent backlash over her new relationship and decision to foster a puppy, saying the judgment has been “hurtful.”
“People have been coming for me for fostering a dog and dating,” Teddi explained. “Like, ‘The only thing she should be worrying about right now are her kids and staying alive. How in the world could she be dating?’”
In response, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star offered a firm yet emotional rebuttal. “If I want to put myself in a situation where I’m staying busy so I’m not getting depressed, why have a problem with that?” she asked.
Although she admits the criticism “bothers” her, Teddi said her oncologist has encouraged her to continue living a full life. “My doctor said, ‘Now that I follow you on Instagram, I see some of the stuff that people write,’” she recalled. “‘I really don’t want you to think about your cancer as terminal… You should be having fun and trying to laugh.’”
Teddi, who shares children Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5, with estranged husband Edwin Arroyave, also shared that fostering a puppy has been a positive outlet. “It’s been really nice, and it’s given the kids a new source of happiness,” she said. She added that she’s been feeling stronger lately, noting, “I’m working out four or five times a week.”
Tamra, 54, didn’t hold back in defending her friend.
“There’s not a day that you’re not worried about your health, getting better, doing everything that you can do and spending time constantly with your children,” Tamra said. “Like, shut the f–k up, honestly. If you wanna date, life doesn’t stop because you have cancer.”
On the June 3 episode of the podcast, Teddi confirmed she’s dating someone new. While she kept his name private, she described him as a “very kind” man who “takes good care” of her. “He’s not married, he doesn’t have any kids,” she added. The two were spotted walking together in Los Angeles last week.
