Todd Chrisley Says He Was Wrongfully Convicted and Vows to Expose the Corruption Behind His Conviction!

Todd Chrisley is speaking out for the first time since he and wife Julie Chrisley were granted pardons by President Donald Trump—insisting they were wrongfully convicted of federal crimes and maintaining they never committed tax fraud or wire fraud.

“I would have remorse if it was something that I did,” Todd said during a press conference on May 30, following the news of their release. “The corruption that went on in our case is going to continue to unfold.”

The couple, best known for their USA Network reality series Chrisley Knows Best, were convicted in 2022 after pleading not guilty to charges of tax evasion, wire fraud, and conspiracy. At the time, prosecutors alleged the Chrisleys had participated in a years-long scheme to defraud banks and evade nearly $2 million in state taxes.

Although Julie offered a statement of regret during her resentencing hearing in September 2024, Todd made it clear during the press conference that their legal team had been placed in an impossible position. “You’re placed in a position as a defendant to bow down and kiss the ass of the Department of Justice,” he said, “and accept responsibility for things that you did not do in order to avoid a stronger sentence.”

The Department of Justice has not commented on the matter.

While the couple’s initial sentences were expected to keep Todd in prison until 2032 and Julie until 2028, their early release followed persistent advocacy from their daughter, Savannah Chrisley, who took custody of her younger siblings, Grayson and Chloe, after their parents were incarcerated.

“She has fought a long fight, and for any parent to see their child fight this hard, it’s a double-edged sword,” Todd shared emotionally. “It’s a blessing, and then your heart breaks because your child has been placed in that position to fight for you, when, as a parent, you’re supposed to fight for your children.”

Alice Marie Johnson—who worked with the White House to help secure the Chrisleys‘ pardon—praised Savannah’s tireless efforts. “The celebrity part really didn’t play a role in this,” Alice told NewsNation Live. “If they did not have a daughter like Savannah who was out there fighting for them, they would not have been pardoned.”

“This woman has worked relentlessly for her parents,” Alice added. “I know that everyone in prison wishes they had an advocate like Savannah Chrisley.

Savannah, who has publicly fought for her parents’ release for over two years, expressed gratitude in a statement to E! News, calling the pardon “the answer to countless prayers.”

“Today is a victory for our family,” she said, “but the fight against wrongful convictions and injustice within our prison system is far from over. I will continue to use my voice and platform to advocate for those who do not have one.”

Todd and Julie, who share son Chase and Todd’s older children Lindsie and Kyle from a previous marriage, were first indicted in 2019 on 12 counts including bank fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Despite the convictions and years spent behind bars, the Chrisleys are now home—and ready, it seems, to clear their name.
