Gizelle Bryant Says Karen Huger Is Having a Blast in Prison — But Ray Is Still Adjusting!
Karen Huger may have traded in her crown for a prison jumpsuit, but according to her Real Housewives of Potomac co-star Gizelle Bryant, the self-proclaimed Grande Dame is thriving even behind bars.
After Karen’s conviction in December 2024 for driving under the influence and multiple other charges, the Bravo star began serving a one-year prison sentence. While many wondered how Karen would adjust to life on the inside, Gizelle recently shared that her castmate is handling it far better than expected.
Gizelle opened up about Karen’s situation during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she was asked for an update on the RHOP veteran. “I wanted to know if you’ve been in touch with Karen since her sentencing, and also, do you know if she and Wendy [Osefo] have spoken since that reunion?” a virtual audience member asked.
Gizelle wasted no time addressing the two-part question. “Her and Wendy have not spoken and probably will not for a very long time,” she shared. “I have been in contact with someone who’s very close to her about her safety and all that. And from what I understand, they love her up [in] where she is right now.”
Andy Cohen seemed surprised by the update, responding, “Oh, is that right? They are loving Karen?” “They are loving the Grande Dame,” Gizelle confirmed, as fellow guest Porsha Williams from The Real Housewives of Atlanta chimed in with her support. “I love that for her,” Porsha added.
It seems Karen isn’t just surviving — she’s thriving. “Yes, and you know she is running that thing,” Gizelle declared, hinting that Karen’s signature confidence and leadership are still very much intact even within prison walls. While Karen appears to have found her footing on the inside, the adjustment for her husband, Ray Huger, has been less smooth.
Andy couldn’t help but crack a joke at Karen’s expense, calling her “the artist formerly known as the Grande Dame.” Despite the humor, Gizelle reassured viewers that Karen is doing well. “Yes, yes, they love her,” she said again, smiling. “So, I feel very good about the fact that she’s safe.”
When Andy followed up by asking, “And have you spoken to Ray [Huger] at all?” Gizelle shared, “Yes, and Ray is … he’s still adjusting.”
Adding another challenge to Karen’s situation, it was reported that her request for a work release program was denied — meaning she will remain incarcerated without the ability to leave for employment opportunities during her sentence.
As fans wonder whether Karen might eventually make her grand return to The Real Housewives of Potomac once her sentence is completed, one thing is clear: the Grande Dame’s reputation remains strong, even in the most unexpected places.
