Katie Maloney SLAMS Vanderpump Rules Reboot as Cheap and Inauthentic!
Katie Maloney isn’t holding back her thoughts on the Vanderpump Rules reboot.
The longtime Vanderpump Rules cast member, who rose to fame alongside her then-husband Tom Schwartz, recently sounded off about Season 12 of the Bravo series, which is returning with an all-new cast following the fallout from Scandoval. According to Katie, the fresh take on the fan-favorite show feels more like a knockoff than a revival.
“This isn’t against any of [the new cast]. I don’t know them, but it just feels cheap to me,” she said on Detox Retox, a new podcast hosted by Tom. “It feels cheap and I don’t like cheap.” Katie went on to question the choice to continue Vanderpump Rules under the same name, arguing that the show doesn’t even feel like a proper continuation.
“With the same name [but] different show. There’s not even a Season 1,” she said. “To me, it just feels like it’s going to try to have the same flavor and the same everything.”
Despite her critiques, Katie had already made the decision not to return before the new season was announced. “Maybe it doesn’t matter at this point, but I had made a decision months ago after this past season,” she explained. “I just needed to move on with my life.”
As for production, filming on Season 12 kicked off in April at Lisa Vanderpump’s iconic West Hollywood restaurant, SUR. Lisa herself was the first to film, with camera crews capturing her arrival at the restaurant in classic B-roll fashion.
Executive producer Alex Baskin acknowledged that fans may be skeptical, but insists the team is aiming to recapture the essence of what made the original show a hit—without simply replicating it.
“I’m excited about it,” Alex said on The Viall Files podcast. “We’re not trying to make the show that we did before. You can’t do that. It’s very big shoes to fill.” He added, “The audience hasn’t had a chance to fall in love with the new group and the new show. I think we’re going to win people over.”
Season 12 of Vanderpump Rules will continue to center around the workplace dynamics, friendships, and drama tied to Lisa Vanderpump’s SUR—just with new faces and fresh storylines. Alex promised it will be “messy and just a fun ride,” echoing what longtime fans loved most about the series.
