Brittany Cartwright Talks Explosive Fight That Forced Jax Taylor Into Rehab
Brittany Cartwright is shedding light on the heated argument she had with her estranged husband, Jax Taylor, that ultimately pushed him to seek help for substance abuse.
During the latest episode of her When Reality Hits podcast on Friday, The Valley star, 36, recounted how Jax woke up in a “horrible mood” after a night of partying in November 2024 and began arguing with her on the way to their son Cruz’s doctor’s appointment. She claimed he had used drugs the night before and was experiencing withdrawal symptoms.
Brittany shared that she had initially asked Jax not to accompany her and Cruz on the long drive, but he insisted. Tension escalated as they argued over a bar opening — contrary to Jax’s recent claim that the dispute started over another man texting Brittany.
“Before a guy ever texted my phone, he was already at my throat, he was already making me cry and I was in the car for at least 30 minutes at that point,” she explained on the podcast.
“We almost pulled over so I could get out and call an Uber and put me and Cruz in an Uber, like, it was bad.”
Taylor’s Explosive Reaction in the Car
Brittany detailed the moment their fight took a turn when a text from another man appeared on the car’s GPS screen.
“He loses it. He starts trying to grab my phone and Cruz is in the backseat in his car seat — that alone is horrible,” she recalled.
She described Jax “reaching over,” “grabbing” her phone, and yelling “the most despicable things” at her, all while their son Cruz was in the backseat.
Earlier this week, Jax, 45, acknowledged the altercation on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, hosted by executive producer Alex Baskin. He admitted that he “lost it” and “went crazy in the car.”
Jax claimed that the incident made him realize the severity of his substance abuse. “That’s when I knew, ‘S–t, I have a problem. It’s still there,’” he said.
Cartwright Disputes Taylor’s Claims About Sobriety
Despite Jax’s statements, Brittany pushed back on his claim that their son was the reason he sought help, asserting that Jax denied having a problem that same day.
She explained that after returning home from the doctor’s office, she locked the door and reached out to Jax’s sister, her manager, publicist, and Baskin, warning that Jax’s reality TV career could be at risk if he didn’t take action.
“If I hadn’t called all of these people … if his job wasn’t threatened yet again … he would not have went,” she said. “It was a really, really bad situation.”
Brittany also revealed that the altercation happened on the same day Jax was involved in a hit-and-run accident. Shortly afterward, he checked into a rehab facility — separate from the mental health center he had attended earlier that year. However, she noted that he left treatment after only 17 days.
Taylor Celebrates Sobriety as Cartwright Leans on Friends
Despite her skepticism about his long-term sobriety, Brittany made it clear that she hopes Jax continues his recovery journey.
“No one wants Jax to be better more than I do,” she shared. “I tried and tried and tried for years to help this man get better and for us to be a happy family. I was deeply and madly in love with him, there’s no one that can ever deny that. You know? My love was real.”
On Saturday, Jax marked 100 days of sobriety with an Instagram post featuring a photo of himself and a chart tracking his time clean from cocaine and alcohol.
“100 days down and the rest of my life to go,” he captioned the post.
Meanwhile, Brittany has been leaning on friends for support. Earlier this week, she joined former Vanderpump Rules co-star Scheana Shay to watch her appearance on The Masked Singer.
“The other day was a really tough one for her, and she’s getting hit from all angles,” Shay, 39, told Page Six in an exclusive interview Thursday.
As Jax continues his sobriety journey and Brittany navigates their separation, the former couple’s turbulent relationship remains in the public eye.
