Dad Places Baby In Traffic During Heated Fight, Then Runs Over Child with His Car!
A Jacksonville, Florida man is behind bars after a devastating incident that led to the death of an 8-month-old baby on the morning of Saturday, January 25.
Justin Golden, 20, was arrested shortly after the shocking event, which saw the infant placed on a roadway before being struck by an SUV that Golden was driving, according to police. The baby did not survive.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Golden was taken into custody and now faces charges of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
Disturbing Details Emerge
Authorities revealed in a press release that Golden had been traveling with a female passenger and the infant when a heated argument broke out between the two adults.
“Upon stopping at the intersection, the driver opened his door and placed the child in the roadway. He then drove off, running the child over as he left the area,” the sheriff’s office stated.
Paramedics from Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded quickly and rushed the baby to the hospital, but despite their efforts, medical personnel pronounced the child dead, according to local CW affiliate WJXT.
At the time of Golden’s arrest, investigators believed that he and the female passenger were the child’s parents, but this has not been officially confirmed. Authorities have also not yet determined whether the child’s death was intentional.
Eyewitness Recounts the Heartbreaking Scene
Markin Barnes, who owns a nearby barbershop, witnessed the aftermath of the horrific incident, which occurred just after 10:30 a.m. He rushed outside when he heard a woman’s screams coming from across the street.
“I saw her holding the baby,” Barnes told WJXT, recalling the moment he arrived at the scene. “The driver then began to leave the area and the vehicle struck the child, so we immediately asked did she need help.”
Barnes said he and others quickly assured the woman that an ambulance was on its way.
Later, speaking with NBC affiliate WTLV, Barnes shared how the tragedy weighed on him after learning more about the case. “Now that I’m finding out the details, it’s even worse,” he admitted. “Just the screaming, the people consoling her, you could tell it really was tragic. Especially with a kid being that young.”
As a father of twins, Barnes said the entire situation has deeply affected him. “It’s going to be prayers and thoughts for the family,” he said. “It’s rough, you know, dealing with kids and young, it’s definitely going to be a traumatic situation.”
Community Comes Together in Wake of Tragedy
Barnes has since opened his barbershop as a safe space for anyone in the community who may need support after witnessing the horrific event.
Meanwhile, authorities remain committed to seeking justice. “We, with our partners at the State Attorney’s Office, will stop at nothing to get justice for the baby,” the sheriff’s office emphasized in its statement.
Suspect Remains in Custody
Golden is currently being held in the Duval County Jail, according to inmate records. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 18 at 9 a.m. as the investigation into the baby’s death continues.
