Joe Biden Labeled A Hypocrite and Liar After Pardoning His Son Hunter Amid Gun and Tax Convictions
Joe Biden is facing sharp backlash after pardoning his son, Hunter Biden, from federal gun and tax convictions — despite previously promising he would not interfere in the judicial process. The outgoing president announced the controversial decision on Sunday, weeks before leaving office.
Biden’s Reversal Sparks Outrage
Biden, 82, defended his decision by claiming Hunter, 54, was “unfairly prosecuted” in a highly politicized process. “From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department decision-making, and I kept my word,” Biden stated. “But as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted, I made this decision over the weekend.”
This marks a stark reversal from Biden’s earlier stance. In June, the president unequivocally stated, “I will not pardon him,” following Hunter’s conviction on three firearm-related charges. As recently as November 8, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated the administration’s position, stating, “Our answer stands, which is no.”
Hunter’s Legal Woes and Presidential Clemency
Hunter Biden was convicted on gun charges and faced sentencing for federal tax evasion, having pleaded guilty to the latter in September. His sentencing hearings were scheduled for December 12 and 16, respectively. The presidential pardon spares him from potential prison time on both cases, a move Biden justified as necessary to address what he called a “miscarriage of justice.”
“I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision,” Biden said, acknowledging the emotional and political weight of his choice.
Trump and Public Reaction
Incoming President Donald Trump sharply criticized the pardon, calling it a gross misuse of power. “Does the pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years?” Trump asked on social media, referencing individuals jailed for the January 6 Capitol riot. “Such an abuse and miscarriage of justice.”
Social media platforms erupted with criticism of Biden’s decision. “We expected nothing less from geriatric Joe. He has shown himself to be a pathological liar his entire career,” one user wrote on X. Another posted, “In Biden’s statement about the pardon he had the nerve to say he has always told the truth to America! Barf!”
Biden’s pardon has not only reignited debates over political influence in the justice system but also drawn harsh comparisons to past presidential controversies.
