Andy Cohen Fires Back at Bethenny Frankel, Says Watching ‘RHONY’ Reboot Is Fun!
Andy Cohen is standing by the Real Housewives of New York City reboot after Bethenny Frankel publicly slammed the series in a since-deleted TikTok rant.
Speaking to Deadline at Bravo Fan Fest in Miami on Thursday, the Watch What Happens Live host and executive producer praised the revamped cast, despite acknowledging some challenges with the transition.
“I think there are a lot of interesting personal stories with the women in the new ‘New York,’” Andy shared. While addressing criticism, he admitted, “The rap on the group in Season 1 was, ‘Oh, there’s not a lot of history there.’” However, he highlighted the cast’s growing chemistry in Season 2, adding, “They hang out a lot, and they are a cohesive group.”
Bethenny, 54, had a harsher take, calling the reboot “a piece of trash” and lamenting the sidelining of RHONY’s original stars. In her TikTok rant, she demanded “justice” for fan favorites like Sonja Morgan, Ramona Singer, and Luann de Lesseps, claiming the legacy cast had been “dropped off at the side of the road.”
Despite admitting she hasn’t watched the reboot, Bethenny declared it “very f***ing boring” and accused Bravo of abandoning its loyal audience.
Andy, however, remains optimistic about the future of the series. “I really believe in the current cast,” he said, referring to Erin Lichy, Jenna Lyons, Ubah Hassan, Brynn Whitfield, Jessel Taank, Sai De Silva, and Racquel Chevremont.
“I think they’re very aspirational. I think they’re fun to watch. I think the clothes and the window into a different kind of New York is all what we wanted it to be,” he claims.
Reflecting on RHONY’s legacy, Andy acknowledged the impact of the original cast, which included Bethenny, Luann, Ramona, and Dorinda Medley. “We had 13 great seasons, plus a Girls Trip with that group of women, which is an incredible accomplishment,” he noted.
Still, he affirmed Bravo’s commitment to the reboot, saying, “This is a new group. I loved the original, but they’re not coming back as the main show. These women are the future.”
While some fans continue to criticize the new direction, Andy is confident that the cast’s personal stories and evolving dynamics will win viewers over. Whether the reboot can live up to the original’s success remains to be seen, but Andy is doubling down on his belief in this fresh era of RHONY.
