Brynn Whitfield Apologizes to Ubah Hassan for ‘Angry Black Woman’ Comment—Blames Editing for the Drama!
Brynn Whitfield is putting the blame on editing and dropping a long-overdue apology for her controversial conversation with Ubah Hassan—insisting Bravo left out the real story!
Following the recent episode, Brynn took to Instagram Stories to clarify the context of their off-camera discussion in the Hamptons, claiming that her intentions were “twisted” in the portrayal.
Brynn explained that during their past talk, she told Ubah, “I don’t want you to come off like this, as an angry Black woman,” expressing concern that Ubah’s boyfriend might hesitate to commit if she appeared that way.
Reflecting on how the interaction was edited, Brynn shared, “I sat in shock this week, as off-camera interactions in the Hamptons were conveyed without context. To see my intentions twisted and my words misrepresented, flat out scares me.”
She continued with an apology, saying, “I am deeply sorry if I overstepped that night in the Hamptons. I am beyond sorry as this was never my intention. The episode was made to appear as though I brought up this stereotype on my own and out of nowhere – which is not the case.”
According to Brynn, the term “angry Black woman” first came up when Ubah referenced it directly on their trip to Anguilla after an incident involving Erin’s sunglasses.
Following the Anguilla trip, Brynn said she and Ubah had open conversations about the stereotype, sharing that, as a biracial woman, she’s also encountered discrimination.
“I have experienced racism – from childhood to corporate America – and it broke my heart to see my friend devastated by the backlash she received online,” she wrote. “I always offered love and support, and when she asked me for advice, I gave it.”
Brynn recalled how their conversation in the Hamptons unfolded: “During that off-camera night…we both spoke candidly about our fears and triggers – as we always had. We hugged, said we loved each other and promised to do everything in our power to help one another.” However, she hinted that the dynamics changed afterward.
“I’m not sure what shifted after that touching moment, but I deeply regret and I am sorry if I overstepped.”
In hopes of clearing the air, Brynn expressed her desire for the reunion to address the issue openly. “I hope the powerful 4th wall moment that happened in Anguilla…will be shown at this year’s reunion, so that this long-standing, nearly two-year-old issue can finally be addressed openly.”
