Crystal Kung Minkoff Was Warned That Kyle Richards Is The HBIC of ‘RHOBH’
Crystal Kung Minkoff has opened up about her true feelings regarding Kyle Richards’ influence on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills following her own departure from the show.
In a candid interview on The Viall Files podcast on October 17, Crystal didn’t hold back, explaining that she was told from the beginning that it was “Kyle’s show.” “When I started the show, I was told by the girls, ‘This is Kyle’s show,’” she revealed. “They let you know.”
The Reality of Kyle’s Role
During the podcast, Crystal discussed how her early days on the show felt like an initiation. She compared the dynamic to being part of a sorority. “It’s a sorority, I was being hazed, and she’s like, the queen, the den mother, whatever. Yeah, the president. And she’ll always be president,” she said. Crystal added that while she understood that Kyle is considered a central figure of the show, it felt like the cast hierarchy was constantly reinforcing that perception. “It’s her show,” Crystal remarked.
Kyle Richards’ role on RHOBH has been debated by fans and fellow cast members for years. Some viewers believe Kyle’s dominant presence detracts from the ensemble nature of the show. Season 13, in particular, focused heavily on Kyle, which some argue hurt the season overall. The cast’s chemistry felt off-balance, leaving many fans feeling that the show needed a reset.
Crystal’s Departure from RHOBH
The news of Crystal’s exit from RHOBH came as a shock to many. Although she may not have always been at the center of the drama, Crystal had her loyal fan base, particularly after a season where viewers felt Kyle’s storyline overwhelmed the show. Despite her departure, Crystal has taken her experience in stride and used it as an opportunity to reflect on her time on the show. She admits that while RHOBH was a big part of her life, she’s ready to move forward.
“I was devastated,” Crystal confessed when talking about Bravo’s decision to let her go. “I think I had more to offer, but they made their decision.”
Bravo’s Future Direction
While Bravo continues to evaluate the cast, many fans are left wondering if letting Crystal go was the right move. Her exit sparked conversations about how the network manages casting and whether it’s possible to maintain a true ensemble cast when one figure, like Kyle Richards, continues to dominate.
Looking forward, Crystal has hinted at new opportunities. “I’m excited about what’s next. My time on RHOBH taught me a lot, and I’m grateful for that.”
As for Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, it remains to be seen how Bravo will handle the next season following this controversial decision. But one thing is certain: Crystal’s departure has sparked a new discussion about the importance of balance and diversity in reality TV storylines.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is streaming now on Peacock.
