‘RHOSLC’ Newbie Britani Bateman Sues Ex-Husband for Demanding Sex ‘Several Times a Day’
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City friend-of Britani Bateman has already stirred things up on screen, but off-camera, the drama continues for the actress and real estate developer.
Britani is currently embroiled in a lawsuit against her ex-husband, John Scott Underwood, alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress. As details from the legal battle emerge, Britani’s shocking claims about her marriage paint a troubling picture.
Britani Alleges Emotional and Financial Abuse
In court documents obtained by Daily Mail, Britani claims her ex-husband was “very controlling and abusive” throughout their six-and-a-half-year marriage. She filed the lawsuit just two days after their divorce was finalized in October 2023, citing severe emotional distress.
According to Britani, John dictated nearly every aspect of her life, including her appearance. She claims that John controlled what clothing, makeup, perfume, and even beauty products she could use. Britani also alleges that John required her to submit to sex on demand, sometimes multiple times a day, and prohibited her from ever complaining about it. In public, Britani says she had to “avert her eyes from any man.”
John’s control allegedly extended to her daily routine, with Britani claiming he mandated she go to the gym every day and even dictated the color of nail polish she wore. Financial abuse was also a key part of her allegations, as Britani says John required her to account for “every dollar” she spent outside of his presence.
But the accusations don’t stop there. Britani claims that John attempted to isolate her from her loved ones, prohibiting frequent contact with her children, family, and friends. According to the documents, John kept a running list of Britani’s “missteps” on a whiteboard and installed cameras in their home to monitor her and her children.
In one particularly alarming instance, Britani says John punished her for breaking one of his rules by cutting off phone service to both her and her daughter. Now, Britani is seeking $2.5 million in punitive damages for the alleged abuse she endured during their marriage.
John Underwood Fires Back With His Own Claims
In response to Britani’s lawsuit, John Scott Underwood denied many of her claims, even filing a counterclaim against her. He refuted allegations of being controlling, claiming that Britani could come and go freely and had her own car. He also denied restricting her financially, stating he never acted to ensure she received “nothing.”
John did admit to turning off Britani and her daughter’s phones, explaining that it was because she ignored his calls and messages while professing her love for him. He described Britani as “self-absorbed, materialistic, and passive-aggressive,” and claims she was denigrating toward him throughout their marriage.
“She has and continues to slander John and damage his character, reputation, ongoing business relationships, and prospective business relationships and associates,” his filing stated.
John claims Britani made false accusations of abuse and conspired with others to harm him.
In his counterclaim, John argues that he, too, suffered “severe emotional distress” from their relationship. He is asking the court to dismiss Britani’s claims with prejudice, indicating that he believes her allegations have no merit.
The Legal Battle Continues
As of now, the case between Britani Bateman and John Scott Underwood is ongoing, and the outcome remains to be seen. Both parties have presented their sides, with each accusing the other of causing emotional harm. While Britani seeks financial compensation for what she describes as years of control and abuse, John is fighting back, claiming that Britani’s behavior and accusations have damaged his reputation.
