Sean “Diddy” Combs Charged with Sex Trafficking, Kidnapping, Arson and Racketeering In Federal Indictment

Sean “Diddy” Combs, the 54-year-old music mogul, has been charged with sex trafficking and racketeering.

Federal prosecutors filed a 14-page indictment against Combs on Tuesday, accusing him of orchestrating violent sexual performances involving women and male sex workers that he allegedly videotaped.

“Freak Offs” at the Center of the Allegations

The indictment claims that Combs transported both women and male sex workers across state lines to participate in wild parties, which he and his associates referred to as “Freak Offs.” These parties, which allegedly took place between 2008 and earlier this year in cities like Manhattan, Los Angeles, and even internationally, were described by authorities as filled with drugs, excessive amounts of lubricant and baby oil, and intense sexual activity.

Combs is accused of coercing his girlfriends to take part in these elaborate sexual acts, which he allegedly directed and videotaped. According to prosecutors, those who resisted were subjected to verbal and physical abuse. U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damien Williams, said Combs “used the embarrassing and sensitive recordings as collateral against the victims.”

Federal Prosecutor Speaks Out

“This office is determined to investigate and prosecute anyone who engages in sex trafficking, no matter how powerful or wealthy or famous you may be,” Williams told reporters on Tuesday. “A year ago, Sean Combs stood in Times Square and was handed a key to New York City. Today, he’s been indicted and faces justice in the Southern District of New York.”

The indictment also reveals that some of these “Freak Offs” lasted for days, with participants requiring IV fluids afterward to recover from the physical strain and drug use. Some were left physically injured. Combs allegedly pleasured himself while watching these intense sex acts, which prosecutors compared to scenes from the ancient Roman emperor Caligula’s notorious debauchery.

Violence and Coercion Allegations

Combs allegedly forced women to participate by using drugs, physical violence, and promises of career opportunities. The indictment also claims that he threatened to withhold financial support if they refused to comply.

“(He) abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires,” reads the indictment. It further alleges that Combs relied on the employees and resources of his business empire, including Bad Boy Entertainment and Combs Enterprises, to organize these events. The indictment details the creation of a criminal enterprise that engaged in crimes like sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, and obstruction of justice.

Arrest and Legal Strategy

Combs was arrested late Monday in Manhattan, just months after federal authorities raided his homes in Los Angeles and Miami. Reports suggest that he was staying at a Midtown hotel at the time of his arrest.

On Tuesday, Combs’ lawyer Marc Agnifilo spoke out, saying, “We brought him to New York about two weeks ago because we knew this day was going to come and it’s here.”

Agnifilo added, “He came here to surrender at a time agreeable to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and then they arrested him last night. His spirits are good. He’s confident. He is dealing with this head-on the way he’s dealt with every challenge in his life. And he’s not guilty. He’s innocent of these charges. He’s going to fight this with all of his energy and all of his might.”

Organized by Employees

The indictment also accuses Combs’ employees of being heavily involved in setting up the “Freak Offs.” Employees at Bad Boy Entertainment and Combs Enterprises were responsible for booking hotel rooms, stocking them with controlled substances, baby oil, lubricant, and extra linens. They were also tasked with arranging additional lighting for these events.

After the parties, staff had to clean up and mitigate any room damage, prosecutors said. If hotel staff became aware of what was happening, Combs’ team would allegedly pay them off with cash to keep them quiet.

Federal Raids and Firearms Discovery

During the raids on Combs’ Miami and Los Angeles properties in March, federal agents discovered a vast quantity of lubricant—more than 1,000 bottles—as well as three defaced AR-15 assault rifles with a large capacity drum magazine capable of holding between 50 and 100 rounds. Two of these firearms were reportedly found dismantled in a bedroom closet at Combs’ Miami home.

“Part of the reason why his conduct was so pervasive and harmful was because his victims and others didn’t feel comfortable denying his wishes because of the presence of firearms,” said Williams.

Prosecutors Demand No Bail

Combs is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday afternoon, and prosecutors are seeking to have him held without bail. They argue that he poses a flight risk and could use his freedom to intimidate victims and witnesses.

“(Combs) has attempted to bribe security staff and threatened and interfered with witnesses to his criminal conduct,” the Southern District of New York noted in a detention memo. “He has already tried to obstruct the Government’s investigation of this case, repeatedly contacting victims and witnesses and feeding them false narratives of events.”

Past Allegations Resurface

These charges come on the heels of multiple civil lawsuits against Combs, many of which involve similar allegations of sexual misconduct. In late 2023, Combs settled a high-profile lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, who accused him of years of physical abuse and rape.

Another lawsuit, filed earlier this year, alleges that Combs drugged and sexually assaulted a 22-year-old IMG model in New York. The model says she kept the clothes she wore that night as evidence.

Former model Crystal McKinney also filed a lawsuit in May, accusing Combs of sexually assaulting her in 2003. McKinney alleges that after meeting Combs at a Men’s Fashion Week event in Cipriani Downtown, the rapper promised to help her career. According to the suit, Combs plied McKinney with alcohol and laced marijuana before forcing her to perform oral sex at his Midtown studio. McKinney claims she later lost consciousness after being led into another room.
