Benji Gregory Who Starred In ‘Alf’ Dead at 46, Found in Parking Lot
Benji Gregory, the former child star known for his role as Brian Tanner on the popular NBC sitcom “Alf,” was tragically found dead last month in a Chase Bank parking lot in Arizona, according to TMZ. Gregory was 46 at the time of his passing. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the date of his death as June 13, though the cause of death remains under investigation.
Rebecca, Gregory’s sister, revealed that he had struggled with several health issues, including depression, bipolar disorder, and a sleep disorder that often kept him awake for days. On June 12, the day before he was found, Gregory was believed to be at the bank to deposit residual checks from his acting career. It is suspected that he fell asleep in his car and succumbed to heatstroke amid the severe summer temperatures in Peoria, AZ. Tragically, his service dog Hans also died in the car.
The loss of Gregory has deeply affected his family and fans. Rebecca expressed her family’s grief and gratitude for the support they have received during this difficult time. She also suggested that those wishing to honor Gregory’s memory could make donations to organizations he supported, such as The Actors Equity Foundation or the ASPCA.
Benji Gregory rose to fame in the mid-1980s with his role on “Alf,” appearing in all 101 episodes of the series, which ran from 1986 to 1990. Besides “Alf,” he guest-starred on shows like “The A-Team” and “The Twilight Zone,” and appeared in the TV pilot “Fenster Hall,” the Disney movie “Mr. Boogedy,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” In 2003, Gregory stepped away from acting to serve in the U.S. Navy as an aerographer’s mate and was honorably discharged in 2005.
Benji Gregory’s death marks another loss for the “Alf” community, following the deaths of Michu Meszaros, who played Alf and died in 2016, and Max Wright, who played the father on the series and died in 2018 after battling cancer.
