The Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador boldly announced a self-imposed “two drink limit,” as she grapples with the aftermath of a traumatic DUI incident that occurred in September 2023.

In a new preview released for the upcoming season, Shannon is shown engaging in a heart-to-heart with co-star Heather Dubrow, during which she shared a harrowing image of her bloodied face from the car accident in September 2023 that led to her DUI arrest. The distressing photo, which highlights the severity of the crash, prompted a gasp from Dubrow, encapsulating the shock of the moment. “I got in the car, lost control,” Shannon explained, with Dubrow responding with a stunned, “Oh my god,” as she comforted Shannon.

This moment segues into a discussion with another co-star, Emily Simpson, where Shannon admits to reevaluating her drinking habits.

“I was just making a lot of very, very, poor, poor decisions,” she tells Emily, elucidating on her new approach to alcohol consumption: “I’m like a two drink max person right now.”

The conversation reveals that on the night of the DUI, tensions escalated between Shannon and her ex-boyfriend, John Janssen, culminating in a critical argument where Janssen derogatorily called her a “drunken idiot.” This confrontation, Beador confesses, was the precursor to her fateful decision to drive, which led to the accident.

In subsequent scenes previewed for the season, it’s evident that Shannon’s alcohol consumption and the DUI will be significant talking points, sparking intense dialogues with her co-stars, including Tamra Judge. At a group dinner, as Shannon reflects on the incident, Tamra pointedly asks, “Is that after you have a drink?” Frustrated with the constant scrutiny, Shannon retorts in a confessional, “I’m done with people saying I’m the drunk that needs help, because I am not. I had a really bad night. I want to walk out right now, because I’m ruining my makeup, so I gotta walk out.”

Details surrounding Shannon’s arrest illuminate the gravity of that night: at 1:17 AM in September 2023, she fled the scene of a collision that resulted in property damage. Discovered walking her dog after abandoning her car on the road, Beador was arrested and faced charges for hit-and-run and DUI but was released on a citation.

Further legal repercussions followed, with Shannon ultimately sentenced to three years of probation, 40 hours of community service, and a mandated nine-month alcohol program, which she completed weeks ahead of her deadline in mid-June.

As the new season of The Real Housewives of Orange County approaches, with a premiere set for July 11, Shannon has taken the opportunity to voice her contrition and make amends. In a preview, she engages in an emotional conversation with her daughters, where she expresses profound regret and apologizes for her actions, signaling her commitment to moving forward and learning from her mistakes.

Season 18 of The Real Housewives of Orange County premieres on Thursday July 11, at 9:00 pm ET, on Bravo.
