Kathryn Dennis, known for her previous role on Southern Charm, found herself in legal hot water after being arrested for driving under the influence late Monday night in South Carolina. The incident unfolded in Goose Creek, SC, following a three-car collision involving Kathryn. According to reports from May 21, police at the scene observed signs of impairment in Kathryn. A responding officer documented in the official records that she displayed “glossy eyes and an odor of alcohol coming from her person,” indicating her condition at the time of the accident.
Kathryn, 32, has been charged with her first offense for drinking and driving, adding to a history of legal troubles. Previously, in November 2023, Dennis was implicated in a hit-and-run incident at an elementary school, though she was not arrested at that time. Her legal complications deepened during her DUI arrest on Monday night when she was also charged with driving with an open container, further intensifying the severity of her current legal challenges.

In October 2023, Kathryn was involved in a serious traffic incident when her 2022 Ford Bronco sped past a stop sign at Whitesville Elementary School in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. The vehicle struck a school crossing guard, resulting in a broken hand for the 40-year-old deputy sheriff. The hit-and-run occurred around 7:30 am, adding to the series of legal issues faced by the reality TV star.
According to a report, police conducted a detailed documentation of the scene following Kathryn’s recent traffic incident. Officers took multiple photos of her SUV and the surrounding area, capturing details like tire marks on the dirt.
The photographs also showed that the exterior driver’s side rearview mirror of Kathryn’s vehicle was missing a cover. Further police notes revealed that officers followed the former reality star to capture photos of her license plates, indicating a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
The victim, later identified as Michelle Ward, described the hit-and-run in a follow-up phone interview with the outlet.
“You got a vehicle coming at you that, the speed limit over there is 35 (mph), but you can tell this person is not doing 35 and getting hit – that hurts,” she explained.
Court documents have disclosed that Kathryn struggles with substance abuse and various mental health disorders. According to the records, she is “addicted to prescription medications, marijuana, alcohol, shopping, and sex.” These revelations provide insight into the challenges she faces beyond her public legal issues.
Kathryn’s challenges with drug use, negligent parenting, and a series of reckless actions that endangered her minor children ultimately led to her losing custody. A notable incident occurred in 2020 when her then four-year-old son, Saint, was seen wandering in traffic twice in one day while under her care. After the second instance, a concerned neighbor called the police. This series of events played a significant role in the court’s decision regarding custody.
Thomas Ravenel was granted sole custody of their two children after a lengthy legal battle, with the decision being finalized on January 17, 2023, by Judge Daniel E. Martin, Jr. Speaking with AllAboutTheTea.com exclusively, Ravenel expressed his relief and gratitude, stating:
“I was awarded sole custody. I make all the parenting decisions. Kathryn [Dennis] has the right to supervised visitation by an approved supervisor [approved by the court] between the hours of 9:00 am — 7:00 pm, every other weekend.”
He emphasized that Kathryn is not allowed overnight visits and that he would manage the logistics of transporting the children for visitations. Reflecting on the custody arrangement, Ravenel resides in Aiken, while Kathryn lives over two hours away in Charleston.
He concluded, “I am beyond grateful for the outcome of this custody battle and for being granted sole custody of my children. Family is the most important thing in my life, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that my kids have a happy and stable future. This has been a challenging journey, but with the support of my loved ones and legal team, justice prevailed.”
