Wendy Williams Hit With Federal Tax Lien For $560k Amid SHADY Guardianship
Wendy Williams has been hit with a federal tax lien for more than $500k in unpaid taxes, according to a TMZ report.
The former chat show host is facing a lien on her New York City condo, per court documents obtained by the outlet. The 59-year-old purchased the property in 2021 for $4.5 million.
Wendy reportedly owes $568,451.57 in federal taxes for the years 2019 and 2021.
In 2022, Wells Fargo froze Wendy’s bank accounts and filed a petition for temporary guardianship, arguing that she was the “victim of undue influence and financial exploitation,” according to her former attorney, LaShawn Thomas.
The once-popular host was placed under a court-ordered guardianship in February, 2022. Wendy’s guardian was later identified as attorney, Sabrina Morrissey. The former daytime star’s net worth has reportedly plummeted from an estimated $40 million in 2020 to an estimated $500k in 2024.
Wendy declared that she had “no money” and no access to her bank accounts in the recently aired docuseries, “Where is Wendy Williams?”.
“And let me tell you something. If it happens to me, it can happen to you,” she warned, in the Lifetime special.
Last month, Wendy’s team disclosed that she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.
“On behalf of Wendy Williams Hunter, her care team is sharing this very personal update with her cherished fans, friends, and supporters to correct inaccurate and hurtful rumors about her health,” the statement read. “As Wendy’s fans are aware, in the past she has been open with the public about her medical struggles with Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema as well as other significant challenges related to her health.”
“Over the past few years, questions have been raised at times about Wendy’s ability to process information and many have speculated about Wendy’s condition, particularly when she began to lose words, act erratically at times, and have difficulty understanding financial transactions. Receiving a diagnosis has enabled Wendy to receive the medical care she requires.”
The lien comes as Wendy’s ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, battles in court for unpaid spousal support.
Kevin stated that his ex had agreed to give him “a severance pay” as part of their divorce settlement, in a petition obtained by The U.S. Sun. He claimed that he had not received any payments since his ex was placed under the guardianship.
Kevin also asked the court to compel Wendy to complete paperwork that would allow him a cut of her SAG-AFTRA retirement plan. He claimed that the decision to stop his severance payments violated a court order.
Kevin requested that Wendy’s team be required to provide bank records from the date of “dissolution of marriage until current.” He noted that he was promised that Wendy’s guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, would provide access to his ex-wife’s financial records.
