Why Bringing Kate Chastain Back to ‘The Traitors’ Was a HUGE MISTAKE!

Below Deck alum, Kate Chastain, has been brought back to compete on  Season 2 of The Traitors, in a plot twist no one saw coming.

The decision to bring Kate Chastain back to ‘The Traitors has sparked considerable debate, with many fans and critics alike questioning the move. Despite her popularity and the undeniable mark she’s left on reality TV, reintroducing Kate into the mix has raised concerns about the show’s direction, its commitment to innovation, and the overshadowing of new talent. 

The competition, which takes place in a castle in Scotland, involves secretly chosen Traitors who murder one contestant, called a Faithful, each night. The Faithfuls later convene to try to identify the Traitors and vote them out of the game. If a Traitor makes it to the finish line, they take home a $250k cash prize. Any Faithfuls who go the distance split the reward. 

During the show’s premiere (Season one), Kate, who was frequently accused of being a Traitor, was the last contestant eliminated ahead of the finale episode. 

Host, Alan Cumming, twisted the narrative during the fifth episode when he brought back the former Bravo star as a returning Faithful. The group was informed that Kate could also be a Traitor, complicating the psychological challenge. 

The entire Season one cast initially wanted to take down Kate for various reasons, according to Cumming. 

“Because I mean they’re like so, it’s like Lord of the Flies. They have a pack mentality and when she…she was a bit of a bitch for a while in the beginning. I think they all just turned on her for the wrong reasons,” Cumming explained during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” when asked why Kate had a target on her back during the first season. 

He quipped — “I find her hilarious.”

Most believe that a “Traitors” veteran shifting the cast dynamic can only be helpful, as no Faithful has been able to identify and evict a Traitor, thus far. 

Kate started off with a bang when she took her seat at the roundtable. 

She asked the group — “Tell me everything! Who do we hate?”

Kate reiterated her role for Season 2 in a confessional spot, declaring that she was brought in to “f—k up some s—t.”

She added — “I love a roundtable. I love the communication. I love the drama. I love talking shit.”

Kate brought the heat to the Season one roundtables, as she regularly requested to be the contestant banished. The Traitors did not agree, as her sharp wit and feisty personality proved to be a valuable asset to the group. 

Kate told People of her surprise comeback — “What makes my return to The Traitors so exciting is that no one saw it coming … myself included! I was willing to give it another go because I knew the cast this year was stacked with so many big, fun personalities.”

She added — “And let’s face it: when Alan Cumming invites you back to his castle, you go!”

Most fans did not appreciate Kate’s approach and dry sense of humor, despite Kate navigating her first roundtable with confidence. One person wrote: “Seriously? Bringing back Kate has completely ruined Traitors for me. There were so many fresh faces to consider!”

Another shared, “Huge mistake bringing Kate back. It’s like the showrunners are out of new ideas. Disappointing!”

Someone remarked, “Kate Chastain’s return to ‘The Traitors’ just feels like a step backward. Time to move on and bring in new talent.”

Another fan commented, “Not happy with Kate’s comeback. It overshadows other contestants and makes the show predictable.”

And someone else critiqued “Kate again? There’s a whole world of personalities out there, yet we’re stuck in a loop. Missed the mark big time.”
