Kandi Burruss FIRED After Bravo Refused Her Contract Demands!
Kandi Burruss has been let go from The Real Housewives of Atlanta following a standoff over her contract demands with Bravo.
At the 2024 Grammys on Sunday night, Kandi Burruss announced that she won’t be returning to The Real Housewives of Atlanta for Season 16.
“I decided I’m not coming back this year,” she told Variety’s Marc Malkin on the red carpet.
Kandi Burruss Declines RHOA Offer
Despite being offered a contract to come back, Kandi Burruss, at 47, has chosen to exit The Real Housewives of Atlanta. A key figure since the show’s second season in 2009, Kandi has shared significant life milestones on the Bravo series, including meeting her husband, Todd Tucker, and the birth of their two children, Ace Wells, 7, and Blaze, 3. Both Kandi and Todd also have a daughter each from previous relationships.
“A friend of mine was like, ‘Why do you keep doing it?’ And I was like, ‘Well, I think because I’ve just been doing it so long, feels weird to think not to do it?’ ” Kandi stated. “So I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m going to take a break, I’m going to take a moment.”
“It’s been 14 seasons, and they allowed us to sit around for a little too long,” Kandi also noted. “But during that time I had started working on a lot of other things, and I got some nice big projects coming soon, so I’m super excited about those things.”

Kandi Blames Production
Kandi explained her decision to leave “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” attributing it to the well-documented delay in the show’s production. This pause provided her with ample time to reflect deeply on her future with the series.
Kandi has an impressive portfolio that includes credits on hits like Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills,” Pink’s “There You Go,” Ariana Grande’s “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” and Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You.” Her exceptional talent was recognized in 2000 when she clinched a Grammy for Best R&B Song for her work on TLC’s anthem “No Scrubs.”
Expanding her horizons beyond music, Kandi, alongside her husband Todd Tucker, is currently involved in producing “The Wiz.” This marks the iconic 1970s musical’s much-anticipated return to Broadway after more than four decades, showcasing Kandi’s versatility and influence in the entertainment industry.
RHOA On Pause
During BravoCon 2023, Andy Cohen, the executive producer for Real Housewives, addressed the current pause in production for The Real Housewives of Atlanta. He revealed that the hiatus was due to the network’s efforts to revise the cast lineup. Andy Cohen clarified, “production was on hold as the network reworked the cast.”
Andy also provided reassurance to the audience, stating, “the show wouldn’t be undergoing a full reboot,” unlike what happened with The Real Housewives of New York City. Instead, the approach for RHOA would focus on leveraging the existing strengths within the Atlanta Housewives group, aiming to structure the show around the “building blocks,” they possess.
The cast for season 15 included: Drew Sidora, Marlo Hampton, Shereé Whitfield, Kenya Moore, and Sanya Richards-Ross, alongside Kandi Burruss.
“I decided I’m not coming back this year. Well, I’ve been doing for 14 years and I have a lot of things I have going on this year. Big announcements coming soon. They did ask me to come back. But you know… obviously… you know, when you talk about negotiations, we didn’t necessarily have on the same page. ” Kandi told Hollywood Unlocked on the red carpet, “So I was just like you know what I’m just going to take my move … my break. I’m still part of the Bravo family. But I’ve decided it was time. It was like one thing we did not agree upon.”
