‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ Recap: Candiace Refuses to Take Accountability in Destroying Friendship with Robyn

Welcome back for another episode of The Real Housewives of Potomac. First up we see Karen Huger and Rayvin Huger at a tattoo shop for new ink. Karen’s continuing to celebrate her 60^th Birthday and decided to get a “G” to commemorate her mother. In their confessional, Rayvin reviews her life in New York and how much she loves the fast-paced lifestyle. Rayvin discovered her mother volunteered her to share her college experiences with Gizelle Bryant and Grace. Although Rayvin’s had her issues with Gizelle in the past, Karen wants to take advance of the good place she and Gizelle are in. 

Karen meets the tattoo artist and feel safe since his name is Ray, but wants to make it clear she doesn’t want to get inked up like Robyn and Juan Dixon. Once in the chair, Karen wenches at the pain but remains still to finish the work of art. Karen loves her new tat and after admiring the work Rayvin hops in the chair next. Karen feels like a cool mom, especially since Rayvin didn’t believe she’d go through with it. Rayvin and Karen share off their tattoos as we head over to a bakery with Candiace Dillard-Bassett and Mama Dororthy. Candiace is meeting with a woman named Elizabeth to plan a mother’s day celebration for the mothers of the group. 

Elizabeth tells Candiace about the amenities for the party as Candiace compares the venue to the one she and Chris got married in. A quick flashback shows Candiace and Chris’s special day, and Mama Dorothy couldn’t help but share that she decorated the space. Candiace side-eyes Mama Dorothy as Elizabeth shows Candiace the invitation options. Candiace makes sure Dr. Wendy Osefo’s invited, Mia Thornton with her mother, Charrisse Jackson-Jordan with Skylar; and since Nneka Ihim’s mother’s in Wisconsin, she’ll bring her big sister. Ashley Darby and Mama Sheila’s are also included but Candiace is not inviting Gizelle nor her daughters. 

Candiace doesn’t feel right celebrating with someone who wished ill on her family and the only reason she isn’t inviting Robyn is because they haven’t spoken. Mama Dorothy asks Candiace if she plans on reaching out to Robyn and Candiace replies that she’ll think about it. Later, Wendy’s walking into a coffee shop to meet Mansa and Mignotae who are potentially Wendy’s new talk show producers. Wendy reiterates her plans for her new talk show and tells us in her confessional that she had to part ways with her previous producer, Marsha. A flashback shows Wendy and Marsha discussing the show two months ago, but things didn’t work out. 

Wendy says Marsha sent over a contract where Marsha would own fifty-percent of Wendy’s creation and we know the doctor wasn’t here for that! Now, Wendy’s looking for producers that speak to her heart and the project, while creating a safe space to talk candidly. Wendy wants to discuss a wide range of topics and has a date in her mind to begin shooting; and asked whether the staff can begin filming next month. The producers give Wendy assurance that they can do the job and Wendy officially hires them on the spot! Next, Nneka meets up with her sister Njideka to shop for furniture. 

Nneka reveals her relationship with her sister is more like “Sour Patch Kids,” and reviews her sister’s hectic life with a husband and three boys. Nneka’s looking to furnish the entire house and is excited to finally be in the house. A salesperson brings out champagne and Nneka reminds Njideka of Candiace’s upcoming event. The sisters check out the beautiful décor while singing together in the store, having a great time.

Nneka tells us about Njideka’s pregnancy journey while remaining confident she and Iyke will conceive soon. Nneka reminds Njideka of their dad since Nneka works so much. Nneka and Njideka reminisce on their father immigrating to the US with nothing and are amazed at how accomplished he is. 

Nneka lets us know her parents expected the best from them, and mediocrity just wouldn’t cut it! Nneka wants to continue hustling and once her champagne line hits the stores, she’ll disappear for a while.

At breakfast the next morning, Gizelle and Grace greet Karen and Rayvin whose already seated. Gizelle’s proud of the beautiful woman Rayvin’s grown into and loves that she can share this special moment with Karen. After ordering, Rayvin asks Grace how she’s doing as Karen and Gizelle reminisce on the past. Karen shares that Rayvin and Grace were apart of the Jack and Jill organization where she officially met Gizelle. 

Karen brings up Rayvin’s memory of Gizelle is when she lost a baking contest seven years ago. A flashback shows Karen trying some of the cookies and Gizelle being upset she didn’t win. Now, Karen tells Gizelle she didn’t follow the display rules as Gizelle questions whether Karen wanted Gizelle to win a crown and a sash. Karen’s little cousin won but Gizelle thinks Karen was being biased. Karen congratulates Grace on going to college and Grace admits it’s nerve wrecking to go away but that she’s excited for this new chapter. Gizelle wants to visit Grace as much as possible and Rayvin ensures Grace she’ll be her own person on campus. 

Rayvin tells Grace not to worry about knowing it all and to live through the experience. Gizelle’s happy for Grace but is also sad that the house would be different without her. Gizelle wants Grace to enjoy herself and admits Grace has cried multiple times due to missing her friends. Grace ensures Gizelle that she’ll be fine as the foursome continue their meal.

Later we see Robyn and Juan as they take their sons to the chiropractor to get adjusted. Due to the boys sports injuries, Robyn wants to make sure they get stretched out to feel relief. Corey’s excited to attend high school while Carter continues working on his math. The chiropractor lets Robyn know that Corey’s left side is problematic as Robyn receives a text message from Candiace. 

Candiace invites Robyn to her mother’s day brunch and Juan thinks it’s a nice gesture. Robyn was fine leaving things with Candiace in Austin, but now believes Candiace needs clarification on why the two aren’t speaking. Robyn wants to let Candiace know how she feels and doesn’t need anything from Candiace. Juan and Robyn get adjusted as Juan falls asleep as Robyn grills him about finding a new job. At Ashley’s, she and Mama Sheila are getting dressed for a photoshoot as Ashley reminisce about growing up with her mama. Ashley values Mama Sheila as a mother and appreciates sharing her motherhood journey with her. 

Mama Sheila’s excited to get done up as Karen arrives for Candiace’s event first. Karen sits outside alone as the staff set up and Karen remembers her mother in spirit. Elizabeth introducers herself to Karen as Karen shares her experience with perfume. Candiace arrives with her sister Crystal and Mama Dorothy; and falls in love with the event space! Mia and guest begin to arrive as Candiace mingles with her friends. Unfortunately, Mia’s mother couldn’t attend and Mia’s still sad about Karen’s triggering event. Mia’s gotten to a point where she’s good but it’s clear her childhood still haunts her. 

Mama Sheila and Ashley show up as Mia chats with Karen outside. As Karen and Mia chat, along enters Charrise and her daughter, Skylar. Karen’s face scrunches up as the mothers talk among themselves while ignoring Charrise. Candaice and Kierana teach their mothers how to properly greet one another as Nneka and Njideka arrive. Wendy wont be in attendance due to her book signing but Candiace calls Wendy to show her support. Nneka ear hustles on the side as Wendy and Candiace congratulate each other as Candiace wishes her bestie was there. Candiace is starting to think Wendy’s avoiding Nneka as Mia asks Charrisse how things are going with Karen. 

Charisse can’t make people like her and tells Mia that its Karen’s fault for not seeing how fabulous she is. Switching topics, Charisse tells Mia she saw Jacqueline the other day and that Jacqueline cried when discussing Mia. At Charisse’s event, Nneka met Jacqueline as well and didn’t have anything nice to say about Mia. Mia admits she hasn’t spoken to Jacqueline in over a year but isn’t pressed about making things right. Nneka recalls meeting Jacqueline and how Jacqueline spilled all the tea on Mia, even an accusation of Mia sleeping with someone at the office. Nneka let Jacqueline pour her heart out to her, only to pay their tab at the end of the night.

Mia’s confused by Jacqueline’s back and forth, and soon Candiace instructs the ladies to sit for brunch. The ladies seem to enjoy the food and Charisse begins grilling Ashley about signing her divorce papers. Ashley doesn’t feel urgency in signing the papers and continues making excuses for not cutting things off. Charisse believes Ashley’s beginning to have doubts and Ashley admits she doesn’t want to be with Michael Darby romantically, but she’s not ready to make things final. Ashley admits her family wants her to cut ties as well but Ashley’s fine with moving at her own time. 

Charrisse shares her perfume experience and Karen also talks business while the rest of the ladies eat. Nneka brings up Candiace talking with Wendy earlier and inquires whether Wendy will be there. Candiace lets the ladies know she’s not coming while explaining Wendy’s book signing event. Ashley proud of Wendy for avoiding Nneka and Karen ask Candiace about the beef with Robyn. Candiace admits she invited Robyn, but Robyn declined her invitation with hopes the two can talk soon. Nneka’s proud of Candiace’s maturity as Candiace explains she plans to meet Robyn later this week. 

Ashley wonders when the group will be together again and Karen reveals she wanted to invite everyone to Surray county, but due to insurance issues; can’t risk the liability. The ladies gasp at Karen’s admission and Mia questions how much insurance in Surray cost. Candiace thanks the ladies for coming while surprising her guest with a performance! Candiace makes a speech about mother’s pouring into their daughters and gives her guest a snippet. The ladies applaud Candiace’s performance as Candiace emotionally hugs Mama Dorothy. Later, Candiace arrives at Lilly’s Chocolate and Coffee to finally speak with Robyn. 

After ordering, the two sit awkwardly together as Candiace holds onto hope for their friendship. Candiace thanks Robyn for coming and gives Robyn the floor to explain what Candiace did to hurt her. Robyn believes that its self-explanatory and that friends don’t bash their friends on social media. Robyn believes Candiace spread lies and now that word spread to social media, believes their friendship is dead. Candiace admits she didn’t mean to offend Robyn as a flashback shows Candiace going in on WWHL. Robyn believes Candiace wanted to hurt her, but Candiace admits she wasn’t thinking when she tweeted. 

Candaice tells Robyn it’s unfair she didn’t tell her there was an issue and Robyn makes it clear she’s not throwing Juan under the bus for anyone’s entertainment. Robyn’s not digging up the past up to make Juan look bad, but Candiace reiterates their on a show about their lives. Robyn knows there’s a thin line with what they share verses keeping certain things to herself. Robyn admits she’ll do it again, but her biggest issue is Candiace accusing Robyn, Gizelle, and Ashley of teaming up to spread lies about Chris Bassett. Candiace brings up Robyn’s actions last year and admits she believes Robyn knew what Gizelle was planning. 

Robyn tells Candiace her accusation is disgusting and Candiace fires back that it’s disgusting for Robyn to be friends with someone like Gizelle. “Birds of a feather flock together” Candiace says while making it clear it’s unfair she can’t have her feelings, but Robyn can. Robyn laughs at Candiace as the two go back and forth without resolving anything. Robyn tells Candiace she’s done and if Candiace believes Robyn’s capable of making up lies, then she should never want to be friends with her again. Candiace emotionally leaves the table as Robyn remains seated to finish her coffee. Be sure to come back next week to see how this plays out on The Real Housewives of Potomac.
