Olivia Plath Shares Emotional Reflection on Her Divorce and the Tragic Loss of Her Younger Brother
Olivia Plath recently reflected on the tumultuous year of 2023 in an emotional Instagram post. The year was marked by significant personal challenges, including the tragic loss of her 15-year-old brother Micah Meggs and her divorce from Ethan Plath.
The Welcome to Plathville star stated in her post, “2023 was quite a year. A while ago I wasn’t sure how this year was going to feel in retrospect because getting divorced, losing a younger brother tragically and questioning everything you know while starting over in life is a lot to have happen in a short time.” Despite these hardships, she expressed gratitude for the year, acknowledging how it had challenged and shaped her. She emphasized that the year allowed her time for grief but also helped her gain confidence.
Thanking the “people and animals” in her life, Olivia hinted at her pet hedgehog, which she rehomed earlier in the year. She reflected on her personal growth, noting that she felt like she had matured yet also regained a sense of youthful wonder and joy.
Continuing, Olivia shared that her mind had been filled with questions, but these experiences ultimately left her feeling vibrant, curious, serene, and at peace with herself. She concluded her post by looking forward to 2024 with optimism, stating, “So ready for 2024 because no matter what happens, it’s going to be the best year yet.”
One of Olivia’s major challenges in 2023 was the end of her marriage to Ethan Plath. The couple, who married in October 2018 at the age of 20, had been struggling with fundamental disagreements. They publicly announced their separation in October. During the finale of Welcome to Plathville, Olivia and Ethan discussed the future of their marriage, ultimately deciding to part ways.
Ethan suggested that Olivia should mend her relationships with her family and return to some of the roots and values she grew up with in a fundamentalist Christian home. Olivia, however, had been vocal about her negative experiences in such an environment. She responded emotionally, stating, “I’m the kid of two people whose principles matter more than a relationship with their daughter, and I will be damned if I repeat that.” She expressed her belief that their separation was the right decision for their future, despite the pain it caused.
“I love you as a person,” she added. “I think we’re not the right romantic partners for each other, but I still love you and I still want the best for you. No one can say we didn’t give it a shot.”
Additionally, Olivia faced the heartbreaking loss of her brother Micah, who died in May after being struck by a car while riding an electric bike in Franklin County, Virginia, as reported by The Roanoke Times.
This loss added to the profound challenges Olivia faced throughout the year.
