Sister Wives: Kody Brown Promises to ‘Always Have a Relationship’ with Meri
Sister Wives star Kody Brown recently opened up about his ongoing relationship with his ex-wife, Meri Brown, following their split in December 2022. The couple, who had been together for over two decades, has decided to remain friends despite the end of their marriage.
Kody Brown, 54, explained the dynamics of their evolving relationship, stating to People, “The evolution of everything that happened with Meri and I over the past 20 years has had an effect to where we’ve come to here.” He described their separation as a “very gentle negotiation,” based on their personalities and what they could offer each other. This honest evaluation led them to the conclusion that they needed to move forward separately, yet Kody remains hopeful about maintaining a friendly relationship. “But I think the realization of that has brought us to a place where we can be friends again,” he said. “Meri and I do, I believe, go forward very quickly — I hope — with love and grace, forgiveness and charity to where I want her to feel free to call me if she ever needs anything.”
Kody also expressed his desire for an open dialogue with Meri and mentioned that she maintains a close relationship with Robyn Brown, Kody’s last standing wife. He hopes to continue a relationship with Meri based on at least some kind of friendship.
Meri and Kody married in 1990 and were later joined by Janelle, Christine, and Robyn in a polygamous marriage. The arrangement changed when Meri divorced Kody so he could legally adopt Robyn’s children from a previous marriage. Over the years, the couple faced numerous challenges, including Meri’s catfishing scandal, which significantly strained their relationship.
Reflecting on their past, Meri told PEOPLE, “I don’t like living in limbo land. And I feel like I live there a lot, but what I like now is that any limbo land I’m living in is on me, and it’s not based on anybody else.” She expressed a wish to have had important conversations earlier but also acknowledged that she might not have been ready for them. Despite some regrets, Meri emphasized her personal growth and learning from the experience.
When Kody conveyed to Meri that he no longer saw their relationship as viable, she resonated with his feelings, regretting the time spent in uncertainty. “We could have been broken up so much sooner. I wouldn’t have wasted my life here,” she reportedly said.
Kody and Meri now find themselves in a more amicable phase post-breakup. “I don’t know how to rationalize that, but we’re not angry with each other anymore. .. I’m like, ‘We are in a place where we are finding friendship in this breakup,’” Kody shared.
The Browns’ polygamous arrangement has seen significant shifts, with Christine and Janelle also ending their marriages to Kody in a 14-month period. As of now, Robyn remains Kody’s only wife.
