Jada Pinkett Smith Confesses To Using Voodoo and Santeria To Cure Her FAMILY DRAMA!
In her revealing new book, Jada Pinkett Smith opens up about a period in her life where she felt utterly helpless. The actress candidly shares her journey of seeking solace, even exploring supernatural avenues such as voodoo.
In her new book, “Worthy.” Jada Pinkett Smith delves deep into her emotions, expressing that despite having a successful and caring husband and blessed with joyful, intelligent children, there was still a yearning for something more in her life. The actress recounts her quest for deeper meaning and how, at one point, she found herself turning to the supernatural for guidance.
In a revealing section of her book, Jada Pinkett Smith shares her journey to Ojai, California, a location deeply rooted in the history of the Chumash people, an indigenous community that once thrived along California’s coastal regions, from Morro Bay to Malibu, including the Channel Islands.
The region of Ojai is often regarded for its mystical energy, with various “medicine women,” residing there, believed to harness these supernatural elements to assist those seeking help.
Jada recounts her own experience, describing how, after a short phone call, she found herself visiting one such “spiritual” healer in search of equilibrium for her life and family.
“I’ve pulled off the curving mountain road onto what turns out to be the top of a steep driveway leading down to the house of the Medicine Woman — whom I just met on the phone only a couple of weeks earlier.”
In her pursuit of spiritual grounding, Jada shares in her book that she didn’t limit herself to just one tradition. Venturing to Cuba, Jada sought the wisdom of a Padrino, a figure in Santería. Through her words, Jada provides readers an intimate look at the lengths she went to in seeking harmony and understanding in her life and for her family.
“I even went to Cuba and met with a Padrino (that was intense).” Jada recounted in her book.
Santería, deeply rooted in West African traditions, was brought to the Caribbean by enslaved Africans and melds Yoruba religion with Catholicism. This step in her journey showcases the depths of Jada’s commitment to understanding and spiritual growth.
Jada has always been open about her personal struggles. During a heartfelt episode of “Red Table Talk,” she delved into the challenges she’s faced, highlighting the genetic predisposition to addiction in her family. “Alcoholism and drug addiction runs through my family, and I had my own addictions I had to get over,” she confessed. Emphasizing the unpredictable nature of her battles, she added, “My sort of addictions jump. They jump around.” This candid disclosure sheds light on the complexities of addiction and how even the most successful individuals are not immune to its grasp.
Jada has always been candid about her personal struggles, shedding light on not only her achievements but also her challenges. In a candid reflection, the acclaimed actress spoke about an instance where she confronted her drinking habits. “I was like, ‘Now hold up. You’re in this house by yourself going onto your third bottle of wine? You might have a problem,'” she recounted.
But Jada’s revelations don’t stop at alcohol. During her youth, she grappled with understanding her relationship to intimacy, noting, “When I was younger, I definitely think I had a sex addiction of some kind, yes, that everything could be fixed by sex. You know what I’m saying?”
Despite these challenges, the actress showed resilience and determination. Fortunately for Jada, she managed to confront and overcome her habits head-on. “I am a binger, and I always have to watch myself and I can just get obsessed with things,” she shared, highlighting her self-awareness.
Jada has faced profound challenges in her life, and in a heartrending conversation on NBC’s Megyn Kelly Today (as reported by E! News), she shared some of her darkest moments. She recounted moments of “such deep despair” that led her to contemplate ending her life. Reflecting on these struggles, Jada wished she had the assurance earlier in life that it would all turn out okay. “I wish somebody had told me that it’s going to be OK,” she shared.
Jada continued, emphasizing the importance of perseverance: “You know, we’re going to have obstacles. You’re going to have difficult times. You’re going to have really dark times, you know? But just understand, keep stepping. Because life starts to reveal itself to you, and the light will come. Keep stepping.”
