Chris and Monique Samuels Officially Divorced After 11 Years of Marriage
Former Real Housewives of Potomac stars, Monique Samuels and Chris Samuels, have finalized their divorce, a swift conclusion coming in under six months following their announced separation.
Monique and Chris Samuels have closed the chapter on their marriage. The Montgomery County Family Court confirmed on Monday that the duo’s divorce has been finalized.
A judge gave the green light to their divorce earlier this month, following a final hearing between the former couple. Yet, the specifics surrounding their divorce remain a mystery, as the divorce papers have been sealed, keeping the terms under wraps.
This past June, 39-year-old Monique decided to file for divorce from Chris, the 46-year-old former NFL player, after sharing 11 years of married life.
Back when it all began, Monique had initially submitted a complaint for an absolute divorce in April. She then revisited the paperwork and filed an amended complaint on June 15.
The couple’s marital ups and downs weren’t a secret to fans. Their relationship dynamics played out on both Love & Marriage: DC and Real Housewives of Potomac. Monique’s stint on RHOP came to an end in 2020 following a heated physical altercation with co-star, Candiace Dillard Bassett.
In October 2022, whispers started circulating when Ashley Darby revealed at BravoCon that the couple was headed for splitsville. However, the pair quickly responded with a joint YouTube video the very next day, denying those separation rumors.
“It’s no secret that Chris and I have been struggling in some areas of our marriage and anybody who watched ‘Love & Marriage: D.C.’ last year, y’all saw the arguments, y’all saw everything that was going on,” the mother of three said.
While Monique openly expressed feelings that Chris might not be entirely fulfilling her needs, the duo stood firm in their message, asserting they were “absolutely not,” on the path to separation.
“Are Chris and I getting a divorce? No! We aren’t getting a divorce,” she declared. “Are we going our separate ways? Absolutely not, nobody said that. Have we filed a legal separation? No. Have we filed for divorce? No. Is there any document that proves any divorce filings? No. Have we separated to the extent of breaking up? No.”
Indeed, both Chris and Monique echoed a united front, sharing that they were actively engaging in therapy to address and work through “their personal issues.”
“We decided we were going to spend a couple of nights apart while we were on our counseling journeys,” she revealed. “We’ve been communicating a lot better than what we have in a long time.”
She continued, “We are most definitely still together, we haven’t given up on our marriage, we did not break up and we are not looking to divorce. We are simply trying to be better.”
The precise timeline of when their relationship hit rocky waters remains a bit murky. However, adding to the speculation, Monique shared a string of enigmatic messages on her Instagram Story shortly after the ink dried on their divorce papers.
One intriguing post touched on the idea of entering relationships with the intent “to give” instead of “to get.” Meanwhile, another message hinted at individuals exposing their “true colors and their initial intentions.”
Monique Samuels and Chris Samuels, who once painted a picture of marital bliss, are parents to three adorable kids: their daughter Milani, 8, and sons Christopher, 10, and Chase, 4. They took their vows and began their marital journey back in March 2012.
