Judge Rejects Apollo Nida’s Plea to Terminate Probation Ahead of Schedule

Phaedra Parks’ ex-husband, Apollo Nida’s attempt to end his 5-year probation period early was shut down in court, according to documents obtained by Radar Online.

A judge rejected the former Real Housewives of Atlanta personality’s plea in a decision reached last week. Nida was sentenced to an eight year prison sentence in 2014 followed by a 5 year supervised release probation period, after prosecutors accused the former Bravo dad of laundering more than $2 million through fraudulent accounts. Nida was able to cut a potential 30-year prison sentence by cooperating with the feds. Nida and Parks divorced in 2016, during Nida’s prison sentence. The ex-couple was married for five years and shares two sons.

Apollo Nida was released in 2019. His probation will end in 2024, but Nida recently petitioned the court to terminate his probation and allow him carry on with no restrictions. He alleged that his entertainment career was suffering because of travel restrictions and the work approval process.

Apollo stated that he had turned over a new leaf since his time in prison, noting that he currently volunteers in his community and coaches youth football.

He said he has “maintained a stable residence with his now-wife and has successfully transitioned into society. He has also established a great relationship with his children and spends time with them regularly.”

He also reminded the court that he had passed all drug screenings since his 2019 release. Apollo added that he poses no threat to society and had “consistently made restitution payments and is not likely to reoffend.”

The government argued against the request, claiming that while Apollo had made payments toward his restitution, $1.9 million is still owed to the victims of his crimes.

The motion stated — “Nida still owes the vast majority of the $1.9 million in restitution announced at sentencing.”

Prosecutors stated that Apollo should serve out his entire probationary period to “deter” him from committing the same offense again. The judge overseeing the case agreed.

The judge did note that Apollo had complied with the terms of his supervised release and had followed though with his restitution payments. He clarified that he denied Apollo’s request after listening to the prosecutor’s argument.

Apollo landed in hot water on May 30, 2021, when he was arrested by Miami police for violating a local ordinance while trying to enter a hotel. He posted bail on June 1, and immediately alerted his probation officer. Court documents clarified that Apollo was arrested for resisting an officer/arrest without violence. He was released after posting a $1k bond and was picked up by the ex-husband of RHOA alum, Cynthia Bailey, Peter Thomas. The charges were dropped the following August, but Apollo was ordered to remain on a GPS monitor and to abide by rigid curfews which he later claimed had  “affected his livelihood and family.”
