Luis Ruelas’ Surprising Phone Call to Joe Giudice on Teresa Giudice’s Wedding Day
Teresa Giudice has revealed the greatest challenge she’s faced during her first year of marriage to husband, Luis Ruelas.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey couple discussed their first year as husband and wife and the hurdles they’ve faced while appearing together on the Bravo show, during a recent interview with Us Weekly.
Luis Ruelas revealed why he decided to call Teresa’s ex-husband and father of her four daughters, Joe Giudice, on his wedding day.
“I called him, basically just let him know that everything’s gonna be OK — that we’re a team,” Luis told the mag, in the most recent issue. “It felt right to call him and talk to him, because he’s a good father. He definitely makes lemonade outta lemons, and it’s something that people don’t see out there. And I just wanted to acknowledge that for him.”
Teresa Giudice and Joe, both 50, were married for 20 years and share four daughters, Gia, 22, Gabriella, 19, Milania, 17, and Audriana, 13. They tied the knot in 1999 and decided to end their marriage in 2019.
Luis Ruelas explained that he believed that communicating with Joe was important as he planned to be “all hands on deck” in his new role as stepfather. Luis added that he shares a similar relationship with his ex-wife, Marisa Dimartino. Luis and Marisa share two sons together, Nicholas and Louie Jr. Luis and Teresa even joined Marisa to celebrate Louie Jr.’s birthday last year, in Atlantic City.
“We spent the weekend together, we went out for some dinner, and it was so nice,” Luis shared. “It was a fun night. It was really nice.”
Teresa and Luis have plans to connect with Joe in the Bahamas, in the near future.
“I’m so happy we did [it],” Teresa said of their first family visit, in 2021. “It made my daughter so happy. And I was like, ‘Thank you so much for doing that.’ It wasn’t my idea, it was his. So [Louie] gets to take the credit for it. But then after I did it, I’m like, ‘Thank you,’ because they really made the girls so happy.”
While the RHONJ couple agreed that married life was “great,” Teresa confessed that there had been one “hard thing” to overcome.
“The only hard thing has been, like, the show, unfortunately,” Teresa revealed. “This is not what he’s used to. So, it is like, ‘Poor guy.’”
“[He] didn’t meet just a regular random girl. So that was, I’m sure, challenging for him. I feel bad that I had to put him through that,” Teresa admitted.
Luis noted that while the show had been an “issue,” he and Teresa were enjoying married life.
“Putting aside the show ‘cause it’s a separate issue — it’s a different kind of environment — real life for us has been amazing,” Luis said. “Waking up with your partner [is nice]… When you’re in the right [relationship], you kind of know it. It’s like every day feels short.”
Luis shared that the newlyweds “do dinners every night,” and Teresa added—“We cook together.”
“It’s really nice to have, like, a lot of structure here in the house with the girls,” Luis explained. “We have four dogs. We live for our kids. It’s really beautiful. You get to this place and actually have time. We have time to focus on the children and what’s important, where they’re going, what their next steps are.”
Teresa Gets Married airs on May 23, at 8 pm ET, on Bravo.
