Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon REFUSE To Change Podcast Name Despite Eminem’s Legal Demands

Real Housewives of Potomac stars, Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon, are refusing to change the name of their podcast, Reasonably Shady, amid their legal beef with Eminem. 

In February, the rapper tried to legally shut down the Bravo duo’s trademark application, citing potential public “confusion” between the upcoming “Reasonably Shady” merchandise line and his brand, Slim Shady. He noted that he had used the moniker “Slim Shady” and “Shady” since 1996, and had poured time, money and effort into promoting the name and brand. He also owns the trademark for both his merch and his music.

Eminem, whose birth name is Marshall Mathers, also claimed that his brand would be “damaged” if the trademark was issued. He cited potential “confusion in trade resulting in damage and injury.” 

Gizelle Bryant’s initially reacted to the rapper’s claim with surprise. 

“Oh, [we were] totally surprised. We thought it was a joke! We were like, ‘What?’” Gizelle told the U.S. Sun. 

Gizelle, 52, mentioned that the pair had since filed a response to the artist’s opposition. 

The Bravolebs denied that they had been on “actual notice of [Eminem’s] prior rights in the names and marks Slim Shady, Shady and Shady Limited before adopting and seeking to register” the moniker. They also dismissed the idea that “Reasonably Shady” is “identical” to Eminem’s “Shady” brand. The reality stars claimed that the trademark would not be confusing to the public nor does it point to any involvement from Eminem. 

The documents state — “Applicants lack knowledge or information to form a believe about the truth of these allegations.”

The outlet asked Gizelle if they had any plan to change the name of their popular podcast. 

Gizelle confirmed — “Oh, absolutely not. And we’re registered, so, no, absolutely not.”

She also dished an update on the status of the trademark, commenting — “The trademark and patent office is like a government agency and so, you know, they have a timeline in which everything is looked at.”

“And so, this is gonna take us out until 2024 unless he drops it,” the reality star added.”So we’re praying he will drop it because Mr. Eminem, Reasonably Shady doesn’t have anything to do with Slim Shady.”

The court filing states that the discovery and trial dates extend until August 2024. 

“He does not want to talk to us – I am quite sure – or me in particular,” Gizelle speculated. “We have a million attorneys – well, he’s got plenty – we have a trademark attorney that handles just this, so [the attorneys] are talking [to each other].”

The RHOP besties dish about dating, relationships, fashion, motherhood and other topics on their podcast, and are currently working to put out a line of merchandise that will include makeup, candles, mugs, water bottles, clothing, and paddle boards.

Gizelle is set to appear on the next cycle of Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip, which will begin streaming on Peacock on March 23. Gizelle’s feud with RHOP co-star, Candiace Dillard, will be revived, despite Gizelle’s claim that the pair had settled their issues before taking off for Thailand. 

“Candiace brought the drama. Like, we were done in Potomac. We had hashed everything out,” the mom of three shared. “We were in a great place and a good place. We weren’t great, but we were good. So there was no reason to bring all of that all the way to Thailand, but, yeah that’s what she decided to do.” 

The new cast includes Miami “Housewives,” Alexia Nepola and Marysol Patton, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City duo, Heather Gay and Whitney Rose, Real Housewives of New York alum, Leah McSweeney, and former Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Porsha Williams.
