Coppin State FIRES Juan Dixon Amid Cheating Scandal and Gay Lawsuit
Real Housewives of Potomac star Juan Dixon was released from his position of men’s basketball head coach at Coppin State University.
The university made the announcement on Monday that it would not renew Juan Dixon’s contract, marking the end of a promising but ultimately disappointing era for the program.
Why Was Juan Dixon Fired
Juan Dixon, 44, who played for the University of Maryland and was a key member of the 2002 national championship team, was hired in 2016 to take over a Coppin State program that had struggled in recent years.
Juan was seen as a promising young coach who could turn things around for the Eagles, but his tenure was marked by inconsistency and disappointment.
In his first season at the helm, Juan led the Eagles to a 8-24 record. The following season, they improved slightly, finishing with a 9-22 record. In 2018-19, the team showed some signs of progress, finishing with a 10-21 record, but they failed to qualify for the MEAC tournament. This past season, the Eagles struggled once again, finishing with a 6-26 record.
Despite the team’s lackluster performance on the court, Juan was widely respected for his work off the court. He was known for his dedication to his players and for his efforts to help them succeed both academically and personally. He was also active in the community, frequently volunteering his time to help with local charities and youth programs.
Coppin State Responds
In a statement announcing the decision not to renew Juan Dixon’s contract, Coppin State Athletic Director Derek Carter praised Dixon’s contributions to the program.
“Coach Dixon has been a valuable member of our community and we are grateful for his hard work and dedication to our student-athletes,” Carter said. “He has made significant contributions to the Coppin State men’s basketball program and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Juan Speaks Out
Juan expressed disappointment at the news of his departure from Coppin State but said he was proud of what he had accomplished during his tenure.
“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity that was given to me to lead the Coppin State men’s basketball program,” Juan Dixon said in a statement. “While we didn’t achieve all of our goals on the court, I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish off the court. We were able to make a positive impact on the lives of our student-athletes and in the community, and that’s something that I will always be proud of.”
The search for a new head coach will begin immediately, according to Carter. He said the university would be looking for a coach who could help build a winning program while also prioritizing the academic success and personal growth of the players.
“We are committed to finding a coach who can help us achieve our goals both on and off the court,” Carter said. “We want someone who can build a winning program while also instilling our values of academic success and personal growth in our student-athletes.”
Juan’s Cheating
The announcement comes amid a cheating scandal that rocked the Bravo network.
As reported, Juan has a history of cheating on his wife, Robyn Dixon. Just days before the couple tied the knot in Jamaica, during the RHOP Season 7 finale — Juan was forced to address rumors of a relationship with another woman he flew out to Maryland for an alleged rendezvous.
The side chick produced hotel receipts claiming she had an affair with the former Coppin State University head coach during the 2020 pandemic. The woman confirmed that Robyn had knowledge of Juan’s cheating and even produced a text message she received in 2022 from the former NBA star.
In late February, Juan was spotted doing laundry at a Virginia laundromat with a light-skinned woman who is affiliated with the university’s athletics program. The woman is Juan’s co-worker. Her name is Breanna Gross, she’s the Director of Basketball Operations for Coppin State University. However, fans accused Juan of cheating once again. He denied the allegations.
The Lawsuit
In November 2022, Juan Dixon was named in a lawsuit for failing to report a sexual assault blackmail plot. The case involves former Coppin State University basketball player, Ibn Williams, and former assistant coach, Lucian Brownlee.
According to the suit filed in Baltimore City Circuit, the former Coppin State basketball player is accusing the former assistant coach of acts such as: harassment, torment, publishing of intimate material, and sexual assault.
Ibn Williams claims assistant basketball coach Lucian Brownlee catfished him online by pretending to be a female student, who deceived him into texting nude photos of himself. Once the catfisher received multiple explicit photos of Ibn Williams, the anonymous person then blackmailed the student into videotaping a sexual encounter with his assistant basketball coach, Lucian Brownlee. When the player resisted further demands for sex, a lawsuit was filed.
The legal complaint reads, “by information and belief” Lucian Brownlee, a former guard who served as Director of Player Development and Director of Basketball Operations, harassed, tormented and sexually assaulted the player, Ibn Williams, before publishing intimate material he had obtained from the student.
