Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon Respond to Eminem’s Accusation of Trademark Infringement  

Real Housewives of Potomac stars, Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon, are hitting back after rapper, Eminem, made a move to block their application to trademark their Reasonably Shady podcast. 

Radar Online obtained legal documents that reveal the Bravo duo’s response to the musician, who is trying to shut down their effort to obtain the trademark. The 50-year-old and his lawyers demanded that the application be denied, last month. The performer, whose birth name is Marshall Mathers, claimed that if the reality stars were granted the trademark, his brand could be damaged. 

Eminem alleged that the trademark would cause “confusion in the minds of consumers.” He noted that he had used the moniker “Slim Shady” and “Shady” since 1996, and had poured time, money and effort into promoting the name and brand. He also owns the trademark for both his merch and his  music.

Eminem and his legal team expressed concern that the RHOP stars’ potential trademark would give the appearance that he is somehow connected to their podcast. 

The artist’s lawyer wrote — “[Robyn & Gizelle’s] mark REASONABLY SHADY, simply looks and sounds like SHADY and suggests that it represents the services of Mathers.”

He added — “REASONABLY SHADY so resembles Opposer’s mark SLIM SHADY, SHADY and the mark SHADY LIMITED in terms of appearance, sound and commercial impression as to be likely, when applied to [Robyn & Gizelle’s] goods, to cause confusion and mistake and to deceive.”

The doc read — “The marks Slim Shady and Shady have become and are an extremely valuable symbol of Mathers, his reputation and goodwill.”

The Grammy winner demanded that the reality TV duo be denied the trademark and be barred from selling any merchandise with the name. Robyn and Gizelle Bryant responded to the request, asking that the rapper’s demands be denied. 

The Bravolebs denied that they had been on “actual notice of [Eminem’s] prior rights in the names and marks Slim Shady, Shady and Shady Limited before adopting and seeking to register” the moniker. They also shot down the idea that “Reasonably Shady” is “identical” to Eminem’s “Shady” brand. They added that the trademark would not be confusing to the public nor does it point to any involvement from Eminem. 

Gizelle Bryant, 52, and Robyn, 43, asked the United States Patent and Trademark Office to stamp their application, despite the superstar’s protest. 

Reasonably Shady’s official description reads — “The podcast features conversations about being fearless women as they recount stories from their exciting lives. Topics include dating, relationships, marriage, entrepreneurs, motherhood, style, glam, current events, and more.”

According to the Patent and Trademark Office, Gizelle and Robyn filed a trademark application to secure the podcast’s name a year ago. The Real Housewives of Potomac co-stars launched their podcast in 2021. 

Eminem has yet to react to Robyn and Gizelle’s response.
