‘Basketball Wives’ Star Brittish Williams Hit With MORE Fraud Charges In Criminal Case … Facing Years In Prison
Basketball Wives star, Brittish Williams, is facing additional criminal charges only weeks ahead of her scheduled insurance fraud trial.
Radar Online obtained court documents that reveal that the government intends to “present a superseding Indictment to a Grand Jury before the trial date for additional charges.” Williams’ trial is set to begin on April 17.
Prosecutors did not specify the nature of the new charges.
Brittish Williams’ attorney, Beau B. Brindley, told the outlet — “The government continues to make allegations that far exceed any actual evidence in their possession. Whatever the new charges may be, we look forward to addressing them.”
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri indicted the reality star on federal charges in 2021. Brittish was accused of misusing a social security number, bank fraud, wire fraud, making false statements to the IRS and aggravated identity theft. The VH1 personality pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The indictment claims that the 33-year-old used fake social security numbers to obtain lines of credit and loans from several banks in 2017. She is also accused of depositing counterfeit checks into bank accounts without the account holder’s knowledge and withdrawing the money before banks could realize the checks were fraudulent.
Prosecutors wanted Brittish jailed as she awaited her trial amid accusations that she had crossed state lines while out on bond, a violation of the court’s order. The feds told the court that a separate investigation was underway involving accusations of fraud relating to a car accident claim. The judge shot down the request, allowing Brittish to remain free on bond. The court even granted her request to have her ankle monitor removed.
The reality star alleged that the monitor was hindering her work as a model, and claimed that she had to turn down an offer by Rihanna brand, Savage X Fenty, because she could not pose in lingerie with the monitor on her leg.
“This lost opportunity cost Ms. Williams at least $30,000 with additional payments that would have been available for Instagram appearances and posts,” her lawyer said.
Her attorney added — “The producers of [Basketball Wives] do not want the ankle monitor to be visible. This creates stark limitations on the outfits and costuming that Ms. Williams can utilize. Ms. Williams does not engage in work for which she gets to choose her own outfits and clothes.”
Brittish has not responded to the claim that “additional charges” are forthcoming.
Brittish Williams took a phone call relating to her case during the February 27 episode of Basketball Wives.
“This is crazy. I’m working. I’m not out committing crimes. This is not a violent offense,” Brittish told an officer of the court during the filmed call. “I feel like you guys are really doing this to me because of who I am, because if I was a regular person, y’all wouldn’t even give a damn about this sh-t.”
She continued — “And I’m not being funny. I’m not mad at you because you doing your job but I’m very aggravated. You would think I really went and did something crazy!”
Basketball Wives airs on Mondays at 8:00 pm ET on VH1.
