Jackie Goldschneider Says Ozempic Weight Loss Drug Is Fueling Eating Disorders Among ‘Real Housewives’
Jackie Goldschneider is speaking out about the popular weight loss drug, Ozempic, which is reportedly all the rage in the world of “Real Housewives.” The Real Housewives of New Jersey star addressed the issue during an appearance on Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast.
“You should know that I can talk about Ozempic all day. It gets me so fired up,” the 46-year-old said. “I’m horrified by it.”
Jackie opened up about her battle with an eating disorder during past seasons of the Bravo reality show.
“There’s going to be a lot of people with eating disorders. … You start dropping massive amounts of weight. That’s so addicting. That’s how I spiraled into anorexia,” she continued.
The reality star shared a health update and confirmed that she’s in a “great place” in her recovery.
“This is the first time in my life that I’ve really learned to love myself and really accept myself,” she shared. “I had to learn that weight has nothing to do with happiness.”
She clarified that the current fascination with the antidiabetic medication, Semaglutide, marketed under names such as Ozempic and Wegovy, had been difficult to process.
“It made my recovery harder, from a selfish standpoint, because I wanted to come back into a world where everyone around me was eating and loving food and enjoying life,” Jackie explained.
She added — “I wanted to come back to that and I didn’t because a lot of people in the ‘Housewives’ world are on Ozempic, a lot of my friends are in the ‘Housewives’ world, so it was tough for me to come back and suddenly no one’s eating when we go out to dinner.”
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Kyle Richards, was recently accused of using the fad drug to slim down after she splashed photos of her trimmer physique on social media. The 54-year-old Bravo veteran shut down speculation after fans began to swap theories about her weight loss secret.
“I’ve never tried Ozempic, none of those diet drugs,” she told Page Six earlier this month. “And now hearing that diabetics can’t even get their hands on it, it would be extremely irresponsible to do that, so it’s extra offensive to me.”
Jackie noted that she wasn’t claiming to know any specific users of the drug, but added that she once “looked up to some people” who she felt “had a very normal relationship with food” — who now use Ozempic to stay thin. She noted that the popular diet shortcut had “opened [her] eyes” and “made [her] even more disgusted” with the weight loss industry.
Jackie shares her personal struggle in her upcoming memoir, The Weight of Beautiful, which is set to be released in September.
Jackie took to Instagram on Wednesday to tease the upcoming book.
“This is a story I’ve spent my whole life hiding, the story of how diet culture took over my life, plunging me into a world of starvation, filled with shame and secrets, that lasted almost 2 decades long,” the mom of four wrote.
She added — “This is also a story of recovery. It’s a story that will blow you away.”
The Real Housewives of New Jersey airs Tuesdays at 9 pm ET on Bravo.
