Meri Brown Slammed for Overcharging Stays at Rundown B&B Amid Travel Scam Allegations
Sister Wives star, Meri Brown, has come under fire for charging exorbitant prices for retreats held at her Utah B&B, Lizzie’s Heritage Inn. Katie Joy, the person behind Instagram account, “Without a Crystal Ball,” has called attention to the facility’s grubby appearance, which has raised more questions about the pricey retreats.
The TLC star began hosting the wellness events after her mother, Bonnie, passed away. Fans have been sounding off about Kody Brown’s ex charging up to $6k to stay in seemingly subpar accommodations. While Meri might call her design aesthetic an effort to honor the home’s original charm, circulating photos of the property have invited lots of negative public feedback.
Meri charges $250-$300 per night for the inn’s four main bedrooms. Fans have called out the inn’s grimy appearance, especially because the same rooms are being used to accommodate retreat guests.
One fan wrote—“It’s the carpet for me. I’m definitely not taking off my shoes even in the bedroom.”
Another added—“This place needs a major renovation. Those bathrooms remind me of grandma!”
A third chimed in—“It just looks like a dingy old house to me….and I agree it doesn’t look clean enough…how often are the mattresses changed out?”
Meri is reportedly struggling to bring in takers for her next retreat, which is scheduled for next month.
One person noted — “I REALLY want to root for Meri, but the audacity with these prices is pretty mind-blowing.”
Meri has seemingly tweaked her retreat packages in recent days, as she has swapped extra time with herself with “bonus gifts” in the advertised “Elite” package.
The event, which is scheduled for February 16-19, offers packages that include either a private or shared room, goody bags, and a vague promise of “relaxation, rejuvenation, restoration.” The inn’s website lists “time to bond with Meri” as what attendees can expect during the four-day getaway.
The inn’s pitch reads — “Join Real Life Retreats and Meri Brown February 16th-19th, 2023 for a weekend of self-love, new connections, rest & rejuvenation! This weekend, we offer a chance to get away in beautiful Southern Utah to pamper yourself, develop deeper connections with yourself & others, and fill up on some loving self-care.”
“At our second Real Life Retreat, the theme is all about SELF LOVE, and YOU deserve to be there. You are worthy of the love and care you so often give away. Let us give it back to you.”
“Without a Crystal Ball” called out Meri’s broad sales pitch, after the reality star told fans that they must register to learn the details surrounding the event.
The account wrote — “According to the Federal Trade Commission, Meri Brown’s refusal to provide details about the location of the accommodations for guests, an itinerary, menu and details of the package prior to purchase is a designated travel scam. The FTC requires that travel packages and retreats include details about the package, including the address and location of the accommodations where the guest will stay.”
Meri asks her potential guests, via the inn’s website — “how often do you give that love to yourself? Are you a caregiver, nurturer, someone always in service? Do you desire the opportunity to give love, care, and nourishment back to yourself?”
Meri reportedly declined to offer more retreat details on social media—but may be forced to address allegations that accuse the TLC star of scamming the public.
