Kelly Ripa’s Fans Concerned After Host Misses More Days At Work
Kelly Ripa has been absent from recent airings of Live with Kelly and Ryan amid issues related to her health.
Viewers of the show have been vocal online after Kelly Ripa went missing from the show since last Thursday. Earlier that week, Kelly was seated next to co-host Ryan Seacrest and she spoke of feeling sick.
On Monday, January 9, Kelly told viewers that all of her tests for illnesses were coming back negative.
“I got really sick, and here’s what’s irritating… when you get sick, and then you have the audacity to test negative for everything. And the doctor’s like, “No, maybe you just have like a random thing.” And I go, “It’s not a random thing because I’m clearly dying.” By the time Ripa was hosting Tuesday’s episode, her voice was gone.
“Yesterday after work around 2 pm, my voice just left the building. I had no voice at all.’ The previous week Kelly was also absent from the show on Thursday and Friday. The All My Children actress said she was given steroids to help with the symptoms so she could return to work but admitted she had come back too soon. Kelly said she feels better when taking them, but immediately after she stops, she feels sick again. Fans of Live with Kelly and Ryan aired their frustrations on Twitter, urging the host to go home and rest until she fully recovered.
American Idol co-host, Ryan, said Kelly was “going through it.” Since Wednesday, other celebrities — Carson Kressley, DJ DeJa Vu, and Jenny Mollen — have filled in for Kelly while she stayed home to recover. Fans were concerned that Kelly didn’t return to the show after talking about her sickness.
One person on Twitter asked, “Where is Kelly Ripa? Another day a no show??? Is she sick?”
Other fans slammed the host for coming to work when she couldn’t speak.
“Today would have probably been one of those days to take off @KellyRipa Honestly, a talk show host that can’t talk should be home with hot tea and lemon! Come on, man!”
The Live with Kelly and Ryan host took to her Instagram last week and shared her frustration with her current state. Kelly posted a photo with her hand over her face and sarcastically wrote, “Another day of nothing being wrong with me.” She took the photo in her New York home and her followers could tell she was unhappy. Despite their disappointment, fans of the show have welcomed the guest hosts who have filled in for Kelly. After Carson Kressley hosted the show with Ryan Seacrest, the show’s Instagram account was flooded with positive comments.
“Absolutely love Carson! You need to figure out how to incorporate him into the show. He brings a fresh new look that has been missing.”
“Thanks for booking Carson! He’s absolutely the best.”
“We need MORE Carson, some fresh energy to the show.”
Viewers might want fresh faces on the show, but Kelly might be going nowhere. Ripa has been hosting the show since 2001 alongside Regis Philbin back when the show was called Live! With Regis and Kelly. After Regis’ retirement in 2012, Kelly replaced him as head of the show. Michael Strahan signed on to the show as her co-host later that year. Ryan joined Kelly as her co-host in 2017 after Michael left the show for a spot on Good Morning America. Since hosting together, the duo gained an average of 2.3 million viewers during their 2021-2022 season.
