Sister Wives’ Kody and Christine Brown Butt Heads Over Custody of Truely in Preview!
Kody and Christine Brown sit down to hash out a custody agreement for their 12-year-old daughter, Truely, on the upcoming episode of Sister Wives.
The meeting took place amid Christine’s gradual split from Kody and the Brown family. The mom of six announced that she was leaving her spiritual husband and her sister wives to move to Utah with their daughter at the start of the season. The TLC series has documented Christine informing Kody and the other wives and sharing how she broke the news to her preteen daughter.
Christine reminds viewers that a formal agreement is not required because her marriage to Kody was never legal, in a preview clip from Sunday’s episode. Kody disagrees and pleads his case for putting a strict agreement in place.
“In this case, we’ve got an issue where we have to have a child custody agreement in place. Basically, we just say 50-50 agreement then we just work out the details all the time,” Kody says. “Otherwise you’re gonna get a lawyer and the government involved and the lawyer is going to take all the money you have.”
Christine points out the obvious in a confessional spot—that she wants Kody involved in the lives of her children.
The TLC mom says—“Does he not understand I want him around his kids? I’m not gonna fight him on that, I’ve always wanted him to be around his kids. So why would I say, ‘I don’t want you to be around Truely‘? That doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.”
Christine speculates that Kody doesn’t trust her—which Kody confirms in his own personal interview.
“No, I don’t trust her. How am I supposed to trust her? What’s the next move she’s gonna make against me?” he asks.
The clip pivots back to the TLC exes, debating the idea of hiring a lawyer.
“You have to have a child custody agreement in place, otherwise the state gets involved,” Kody notes.
Christine wonders if mentioning her impending move is a wise decision. Kody shoots down the idea and pushes to keep the agreement based in Arizona.
“No, no, we’re not doing anything ever in Utah,” he says. “Don’t ever involve Utah. Even if she’s living there, we get a child custody agreement here (in Arizona).”
Kody, 53, and his four wives, Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn, moved from Las Vegas to Flagstaff Arizona, in 2018. During Sunday’s episode, Kody looks back at how the family fled Utah while “under duress” in 2010.
The Brown family was investigated by the Lehi, Utah police for potentially violating the local bigamy law, after the premiere of Sister Wives. No charges were ever filed.
“Christine says, ‘I’m going back (to Utah),’” he says. “Well, she’s going back to a state that hates me and so she’s taking Truely, she’s going to go to that state.”
Kody shares a concern that Utah could butt into their custody arrangement.
“What’s gonna stop them from teaming up with her? Because remember, I don’t trust her. Whether she’s going to be good to me or not is unknown,” Kody says.
“Usually, divorces just aren’t that nice. She’s going back to a state (Utah) that will come after me if she decides to,” the patriarch adds.
Kody connects his uneasiness over the custody issue to discovering his belongings from Christine’s house boxed and in her garage.
“She told me that she was trying to be benevolent in packing up my stuff and getting it out of the house cause she knew I didn’t have the time to do it. And frankly, I wouldn’t have done it. I would’ve been obstinate about it because that was my house. I want to live there still,” he says.
“If she was truly being benevolent, maybe she can be trusted through all of this — but I don’t know.”
Watch Sister Wives, Sundays at 10 pm, ET, on TLC.
