‘Naked and Afraid’ Star Melanie Rauscher Found Dead!

Naked and Afraid star, Melanie Rauscher, was found dead on July 17 in Prescott, Arizona.

According to police reports, the reality star was dog-sitting in the city while the homeowners were out of town. When they came back, they found Melanie dead in the guest room with several cans of dust cleaner containing compressed air beside her. It is unclear if she consumed the contents in the can, but there was no foul play, according to the police reports. The police also said there was no drug paraphernalia around her or a suicide note that would confirm her cause of death.

The dog Melanie was taking care of was found to be fine. Rauscher appeared on Discovery Channel’s Naked & Afraid in 2013 and Naked & Afraid XL in 2015. One of Melanie’s former castmates, Jeremy McCaa, took to Facebook to fondly remember the reality star. He wrote, “She came into my life in a way I can’t explain. We had such a chemistry on the show and it blossomed into a friendship that goes beyond words could describe. Her laughter was one of a kind. Her friendship was amazing. Even tho we wasn’t blood, we was family.”

Jeremy continued, “We had so many moments when we would just be there for each other. She was my swamp wife, a best friend, a strong woman, an amazing person and I’ll always cherish our moments together. You’re gone to soon and taken from us to early. You’ll always be my Mel.” He finished the post saying, “I love you to Melanie,” and asked fans to keep her family and friends in their prayers. “See you soon, Queen!” he concluded.

As per Melanie’s obituary, she was born and raised in Philadelphia. She is survived by parents Daniel T. and Catherine A. Rauscher (née Weissman) and sisters Jeanette, Rebecca, and Alexis, as well as niece Aria and nephew Liam Parker. As a member of the U.S. Navy, she served aboard the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt CVN-17 during the Iraq War. At the time of her death, Rauscher was working at the Prescott VA Medical Center. In her obituary, it states, “Mel was a passionate athlete and deeply involved in local adult leagues. She was a diehard Eagles fan. She was a natural comedian, and her wit was unmatched. Melanie’s boisterous laugh will echo in the hearts and minds of her loved ones forever.”
