Welcome to Plathville’s Kim And Barry Plath Announce Divorce After 24-Year Marriage!
Kim and Barry Plath are calling it quits. The Welcome to Plathville stars spoke to PEOPLE, via a statement, about their decision to end their 24-year marriage.
“After considerable thought and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage,” Kim and Barry announced. ”While this was not an easy decision, we know it’s the best choice for both of us. We have been through many highs and lows in our 24 years of marriage and as we navigate this new chapter in our lives, we will co-parent our amazing children.”
The popular TLC show has featured the couple’s marriage as a main storyline during Season 4, as well as their decisions to separate and live apart.
“I can’t help but feel a little betrayed,” Barry, 54, said during Tuesday night’s episode. ”One thing I thought wouldn’t ever be shaken was us. Now it’s totally shaken up. It’s just really sad. It’s a tragedy.”
He added in a confessional spot—”I look at her and I see a woman who feels trapped. I have bought flowers and bought presents, but I’m still an optimist hoping that she’ll change.”
“I just feel like I’ve been hurt too much,” Kim, 49, told Barry, sharing her own perspective.
Barry asked Kim why she was acting “selfish,” and Kim replied—”Do you want me to stay knowing that I’m not happy?”
Kim opened up in a personal interview, commenting—“He’s, if anything, saying that it’s selfish for me to want to be in a healthy marriage as if I don’t have the right to be happy or the right to be in a healthy marriage as if I don’t matter — which is why we are where we are.”
Barry and Kim share 9 living children—Moriah, Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia, and Mercy Plath. Their deceased son, Joshua, died at the age of 17 months.
Moriah Plath shared her thoughts about her parents’ separation in June, in an interview with PEOPLE.
“I’ve known for months before anything actually happened, months before they actually decided to separate,” Moriah said. “I knew that they were struggling.”
The 19-year-old opened up about her parents’ decision to split.
“At the end of the day, I just want her and my dad to be happy,” she said. “It’s really hard because they both want different things, so it’s hard watching. I want my dad to be happy, but this is tearing him apart, but my mom’s not going to be happy with my dad.”
Welcome to Plathville premiered in 2019 and follows the conservative family as they work to navigate modern society.
