As reported, Tamar Braxton got real about her suicide attempt during a face-to-face interview with actress Taraji P. Henson‘s new show, ‘Peace of Mind With Taraji.’ The singer revealed that she attempted to take her own life because her 7-year-old son, Logan, would be better off without her.
“Logan was the reason why I made that decision. I just felt like he deserved better. I felt like I was embarrassing him, being a fool on TV,” Tamar expressed to Taraji as she broke down into tears. “You thought he would be better without you?” a shocking Taraji asked for clarification. “I thought in that moment,” Tamar replied.
After the premiere of Tamar‘s episode, she hopped onto social media to clarify her statements, making it clear that WE tv, the network that has been home to the Braxton family’s reality show for nearly 10 years, played a major part in the decision to end her life.
“Excuse me… once again wetv has taken themselves out of the headlines. It wasn’t my son per say, it was what was continuously aired on that network that was effecting my son and reputation. They WOULD NOT terminate working together after I told them it was killing me. Periodt.”
During Tamar‘s episode, the singer broke down moments that lead up to her “losing control” of her life, pointing out that she first “fell into the fog” after she was fired from ‘The Real.’
Taraji‘s co-host, Tracie Jade, asked Tamar to put a “timestamp” on the moment she felt like she was losing control of her life. “The first time I knew that things wasn’t normal, was when everything went down with ‘The Real,’ Tamar answered. “I was in my bedroom; it was completely dark.” Tamar agreed with Taraji that she “was in a fog” noting, “you don’t shower, you don’t eat, you don’t know what day of the week it is or the time… you don’t care.” Tamar elaborated:
“I was able to hide it enough, to pull myself … barely…out of it, and then I go back to the same toxic lifestyle, without dealing with everything that happened to me prior, and that is continually happening to me, right? From day-to-day, I was just barely sliding by, you know? I just felt choked ’cause it was no escape. I just didn’t see another way out… I wanted to die, everything was going wrong.”
Taraji suggested Tamar give a list of all that went wrong during her time of struggle.
“I had no relationship with my family, I was estranged from my sisters, including my mother, and I worked with my family. We had no healing time. My relationship with my fiancé at the time was out of control, I saw no signs of nothing. The relationship with my child was surface, meaning like, yeah I check-in, but I wasn’t really checkin’ in. I would make him some food but I didn’t know if he liked it, you know what I mean, and with myself, I gained 50 pounds, so I didn’t even recognize myself anymore. That should have been such a huge sign to me, that something is WRONG, that things are not going well, at all.”
