RHOP Star Wendy Osefo Fired from Wesleyan University After Insurance Fraud Arrest
Real Housewives of Potomac star Wendy Osefo has been fired from Wesleyan University following her arrest on multiple fraud charges.
“Wendy Osefo is no longer an employee of Wesleyan University,” the school confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, October 14, adding that she “resigned from her position.” The 41-year-old reality star joined the university in fall 2024, where she taught a course on reality television and social issues.
The announcement comes just days after Wendy and her husband, Eddie Osefo, were arrested and charged with insurance fraud in Westminster, Maryland. Court documents show that a grand jury indicted Wendy on seven counts of insurance fraud, eight counts of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and one count of making a false statement to police.
The couple, who were released on $50,000 bail each, are accused of staging a fake burglary at their Maryland home in April 2024 to collect nearly $450,000 in fraudulent insurance claims. Investigators say the Osefos claimed luxury handbags and jewelry were stolen while they vacationed in Jamaica — but many of those “stolen” items were later found in their home or had been returned for refunds prior to the alleged break-in.
Police also cited social media posts showing Wendy wearing a diamond anniversary ring she had reported stolen, while emails between the couple allegedly revealed Eddie asking Wendy if there were “additional high-value items” to add to their insurance list to reach their policy maximum.
Following their arrests, the couple’s spokesperson told E News, “Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits. They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues.”
Wendy’s exit from Wesleyan comes after previously teaching at Johns Hopkins University, where she was an assistant professor of education. She holds degrees from Temple University, Johns Hopkins, and a Ph.D. in public affairs and community development from Rutgers.
Bravo has not yet commented on how the legal scandal or Wendy’s resignation will affect her role on The Real Housewives of Potomac. However, Bravo did pull Wendy Osefo’s episode from Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition and pushed back the premiere date from its original release following her arrest.
