Southern Charm’s Kathryn Dennis SUED by Victim Over 2024 DUI Car Crash — While She’s Behind Bars!
Kathryn Dennis is facing new legal troubles following her 2024 DUI car crash.
The Southern Charm alum, 34, was named in a lawsuit filed in August by a South Carolina man who alleges he was injured in a three-car crash Dennis allegedly caused on May 20, 2024, in Goose Creek. According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the plaintiff claims he “suffered serious bodily injury, pain and suffering, and mental anguish” as a result of the accident.
The complaint further alleges that Kathryn “failed to slow her vehicle” and rear-ended another car, which then struck the plaintiff’s vehicle.
Kathryn Dennis — who was booked on October 3 in Berkeley County and sentenced to 30 days in jail is accused of driving “under the influence and intoxication of alcoholic beverages, and or other controlled substance(s),” the filing states.
“As a result of said accident, which was solely due to the negligent and wanton, willful recklessness of the Defendant… the Plaintiff suffered serious bodily injury, pain and suffering and mental anguish,” the complaint continues. “Further, the Plaintiff’s vehicle suffered property damage.”
The driver is seeking “just and proper” compensation, including punitive damages and legal costs. The complaint also accuses Kathryn of failing to maintain proper control of her vehicle or apply her brakes. Kathryn’s insurance company, State Farm, was later added as a co-defendant before denying the allegations.
The incident occurred when Kathryn Dennis was stopped by the Goose Creek Police Department just after 10 p.m. on May 20.
Officers noted that she appeared “possibly impaired,” with “glossy eyes and an odor of alcohol.” She was arrested and charged with DUI and transporting an open container of alcohol. Her legal woes follow an October 2023 incident in which a vehicle registered in her name was reportedly involved in an alleged hit-and-run, though it remains unclear if she was driving.
