Monique Samuels Says She Turned Down RHOP Seven Times Due to Fear and PTSD

Monique Samuels is making her highly anticipated return to The Real Housewives of Potomac — and she’s doing it on her own terms.

In a candid Instagram Live, the reality star confirmed that she’s rejoining the Bravo hit for its upcoming season, marking her first time back on the show since her dramatic exit in Season 5. That departure followed an explosive on-camera altercation with castmate Candiace Dillard Bassett, which left her at odds with several co-stars, including Gizelle Bryant. After confronting the group at the reunion and declaring she was done, Monique stepped away from the franchise.

Monique later joined Love & Marriage: DC, but exited that show as well following the end of her marriage to Chris Samuels. Since then, she’s voiced criticism about her experience on LAMDC, even questioning how things were handled behind the scenes.

Now, she’s stepping back into the spotlight — and she says she’s done running from it.

“I declined probably a good seven times, and then something happened. Something changed and I was just like hmm. I’m not the person that I was,” Monique shared during her live. “And a lot of the reasons that I said no was because of the person that I was and I’m not her anymore. So, what better way to test my healing?”

She continued, “But no for real, I have been running from the platform that gave me a foundation out here in these streets. When I really thought about it, what was keeping me from returning was a lot of fear and also a lot of PTSD. I was built way different then, I’m built a little better now.”

Monique also sees her comeback as a strategic move. “And given everything that I have going on in my life between my business Mila Eve Essentials which has been extremely successful and also my book that I’ve been working on…for anyone who’s been following me consistently, y’all know I’ve been talking about my book for at least two years now. It’s been a work in progress.”

“It’s also something that’s near and dear to me.” Looking ahead, the entrepreneur hopes viewers will witness a transformed version of her.

“I love that you’ll not only be able to see the levels of growth I’ve achieved when you read my book, but you’ll also be able to see it now on TV as well. I have been able to move past that and it’s my season. I’m stepping into my season. I feel like everything that I’ve gone through up until this point has been for this moment and I’m really excited.”
