Kandi Burruss is making it clear—she’s standing by Todd and Julie Chrisley following their headline-making release from prison. Kandi joined other celebrities and fans last week in celebrating the couple’s unexpected presidential pardon for tax evasion, bank fraud, and conspiracy charges.

After former President Donald Trump granted clemency to both Todd and Julie, Kandi wasted no time showing support. She jumped into the comments of Chase Chrisley’s celebratory Instagram post with a congratulatory message.

Todd Chrisley

“Congratulations!!!! I’m so happy for y’all!!!!” she wrote.

The supportive gesture sparked instant backlash online, with fans criticizing the Bravo star for praising a couple convicted of defrauding the government.  A lot of people are upset with Kandi Burruss right now—not because she supports the Chrisleys, but because of the optics surrounding it.

Kandi, a successful Black woman, is publicly backing Todd and Julie Chrisley, who are known Trump supporters. The backlash is less about the legal case and more about what it represents to some fans.

But Kandi quickly clapped back, defending her stance and insisting her support has nothing to do with politics. “What’s the problem?” Kandi asked on X.

Todd & I were cool before he ever had this legal issue. I’m happy that him & Julie are out of jail. What y’all so pressed for? Me being happy for them has nothing to do with my political beliefs.”

Despite her explanation, comments continued to flood in—many questioning her judgment for cheering on the controversial pardons.

As the backlash simmers, the Chrisleys are wasting no time embracing their new chapter. Todd’s daughter recently described her dad as looking “jacked,” while Todd himself remains adamant that he never should have been incarcerated to begin with.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
