RHOSLC’s Britani Bateman SUED by Former Mother-in-Law for Allegedly Stealing $100K from Family Trust!
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City newcomer Britani Bateman is facing serious legal trouble—this time from her ex-husband’s mother.
According to court documents filed on May 6, Britani’s former mother-in-law, Sandra Underwood, is suing the reality star for allegedly misusing $100,000 from a family trust. The suit, obtained by Page Six, claims that Britani “used funds deposited into a family trust for her own personal benefit” and now refuses to return them.
“Britani willfully, maliciously and through intentionally fraudulent conduct, also converted Plaintiff’s funds and now refuses to repay the funds,” the complaint alleges. Britani was married to John Scott Underwood for seven years before finalizing their divorce in October 2023.
Since their split, the drama has only intensified. The RHOSLC star has previously accused her ex-husband of draining their joint bank accounts and cutting her off from their shared business ventures. She was also hit with a $2.5 million lawsuit last year.
Now, tensions with her former in-laws have come to a head. Sandra Underwood reportedly sold her West Valley, Utah, home for $338,889.31 and agreed—at Britani’s alleged urging—to deposit $100,000 into the family trust. Sandra believed the money could be withdrawn at any time without resistance. According to the documents, the trust in question was established in 2019 by Britani’s late father, Melvin Merrill Martin. Both Britani and her mother were named trustees.
After Britani’s mother passed, her ex-husband John was appointed successor trustee of the “Integrity Trust.” Sandra’s legal team claims that they attempted to resolve the matter privately in March, sending a formal request for the return of the money. To date, they allege Britani has not repaid the funds.
Sandra, who is now in her 80s, says she urgently needs the funds due to rising medical costs. The filing argues that her monthly income of $1,600 is not enough to cover her healthcare expenses.
“As Britani knows, Sandra is in her 80s and as she has aged, her cost of living has gone up mostly because of health issues which most elderly people experience,” the attorney stated.
The complaint asks that Britani be ordered to repay the $100,000, plus interest, and also cover Sandra’s legal fees. The filing argues that the repayment should be made “out of simple decency and morality.” Despite the lawsuit, filming for the new season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is currently underway, and viewers may get a front-row seat to how the drama unfolds.
